So proud of our homeschool and afterschool sewists! They officially wrapped up their prior projects and began working on their floor turtles this week.
Watching them master machine techniques, pin their pieces, and bring their ideas to life is the best part of teaching. Plus, no studio session is complete without a little love from Casper our resident studio cat! 🐾

Need a dedicated block of time to work on your sewing projects? Join us for Friday Open Sew!
🗓️ When: Fridays in September & October | 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
💵 Rate: $10 / hour
🎃 Projects: Bring anything you want!
A few of us are getting a head start on holiday table runners (check out the photos below for inspiration!), but all projects are welcome. While this isn't a structured class, I’ll be working on my own runners and available to guide you if you need a hand.

So proud of this superstar student working on hand-sewn plush bunnies for new babies. She wrapped up bunny #1 today and is ready to tackle the second one next class!

With the weather changing many of you are getting back in to baking! Here’s a quick sew you can do on your own to cover that bread as it rises! Be sure to use a thin cotton or linen fabric so the dough can breathe. Here’s the long but easy directions and photos, plus a simplified picture version I made with Ai! Happy sewing 🧵

Draw circle on the wrong side of your fabric with your fabric folded in half so that you have two piece pieces. Just trace whichever bowl you plan to use it on. Then use a ruler and mark 2 to 3 inches past your mark on each side I usually do four or six marks and then it’s like connect the dots to make that wider circle.
Once you’ve had the two circles drawn all you have to do is stitch the outer circle you can either cut a little bit wider than your circle or just cut a big square it doesn’t matter as long as you’re able to the fabric together so it doesn’t shift and just so on your outer line, be sure to BE SURE TO LEAVE AN OPENING.
After you’ve stitched you can trim excess fabric, don’t cut too close to the fabric though!
Now turn it right side out and use a chopstick or your fingers to push the edges out, if possible iron it flat. Draw a line on the right side of the fabric about 1/2 inch in depending on how thick the elastic you will be using. You can use a pencil or washable marker or chalk, you will be sewing on this line so it’ll just be a slightly smaller circle. Sew all the way around WITHOUT leaving an opening. This is creating the casing for your elastic and you can now thread your elastic through using a safety pin or bodkin if you have one.
Once you’ve pulled your elastic in that chamber you can tie it off or stitch it together whichever works better for you, but you may need to stretch it a bit to see how it looks on the bowl so that the elastic is not too tight or too loose.
Now that you have your elastic tied you can top stitch the small opening shut and you’re finished!✅

Friday Open Sew Studio Hours! 🧵✨
Looking for dedicated space and time to work on your latest project, tackle that WIP (work-in-progress), or just stitch and chat with fellow sewists? Come join us this Friday!
When: This Friday from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Cost: $10 / hour (stay for one hour or the whole time!)
Capacity: Limited to 5 students total for a cozy, open studio environment.
What to expect:
This is a informal community studio session (not a structured private lesson), so bring whatever fun, silly, or overdue sewing project you’d like to work on!
🐢 Featured Project: I’ll be working on making this adorable floor turtle! If you want to follow along and stitch a turtle together with me, you’re more than welcome to join in, just bring an old towel—or bring your own unique craft to play around with and get some stuff done.
How to reserve your spot:
