Eyeliner that looks perfect at 8 AM and smoky by noon usually comes down to three things. Your lids make oil, especially along the lash line, and oil breaks down most liners. Your waterline is wet by design. And a hooded lid presses against the line every time you blink.

Pencils built for that are labeled waterproof, and they set once they dry. Give yours a few seconds before you blink hard or add shadow on top.

Hooded eyes eat winged liner. Draw it with your eyes closed and it's gone the second you open them.

Two changes fix it. Tightline first: lift your lid and press the pencil into the lash roots from underneath, so your lashes look fuller with no visible line. Then, if you want a wing, draw it with your eyes open, looking straight ahead. Follow the angle of your lower lash line instead of your crease.

Waterproof pencils matter most here, since a hooded lid touches the line all day. Two new ones launch on Thursday.
