‼️ WE NEED YOUR HELP ‼️

Requests for coats are UP, but coat drive registrations are DOWN.

That means thousands of children, families and adults across the country could be facing the colder months ahead without something as basic as a warm coat.

Queen Hippie Gypsy is proud to continue supporting One Warm Coat and doing our part right here in our community. This work is especially meaningful to us because giving coats and helping keep people warm has been part of my community service for more than 20 years, long before QHG ever opened its doors.

National Share the Warmth Day is Tuesday, October 20, and we’re asking our community to SHOW UP. 🧥❤️

Clean, gently worn and new coats can make a real difference. Check your closets. Ask your family. Ask your coworkers. Get your children involved. Encourage your organization or business to participate.

One coat may seem small, but to the person who needs it, it means warmth, protection and knowing that somebody cared enough to give.

Let’s fill this coat drive. Oakland, we know what community looks like. Let’s show it.

We’re still recapping Release & Renew because the day was just that great, and we still have more incredible people from our wellness team to feature.

When I tell y’all Elena Funseth Elena snaps every time, my girl is the truth. The way she teaches will have you stretching into yourself, discovering places in your body you didn’t even realize needed some attention, and somehow when it’s all over you find yourself standing a little taller.

What made this moment even more beautiful was the setting. The Oakland Faith exhibit featured images of churches, mosques and temples throughout Oakland, and seeing Elena lead her class with those images as the backdrop brought together so much of what we were creating that day through faith, wellness, movement and community.

Elena teaches regular Friday classes at Queen Hippie Gypsy, so you don’t have to wait for another event to get on the mat with her. You can sign up right on our website.

And we’re nowhere near finished showing y’all this team. There are still so many gifts, practices and people we want you to experience, because what you saw at Release & Renew was only part of who we are together.

Here’s what a REAL shadowban looks like. My follower count literally does not move, and yet I’m CONSTANTLY getting notifications that new people are following me.

I care enough to say, let me be the example. Don’t be like me, guys. Whatever you do, DO NOT use your business profile to endorse political candidates.

Not only because politicians will make false promises while they’re trying to get elected, but because the real question is: if they win, do they actually come back and help the businesses and people they promised to help? In my case, NO.

Four years later, I can tell you that for me, it still hasn’t been worth it.

So yeah, laugh at my pain. I took one for the Oakland team. Learn from me. Keep your business page about YOUR OWN BUSINESS.

🧥❤️ Long before I opened Queen Hippie Gypsy, I worked in healthcare for 13 years and was responsible for organizing coat collections across the Downtown Oakland region for the hospitals. I organized, collected and personally helped distribute coats to people who needed them.

Almost 20 years later, I’m still doing the work. Queen Hippie Gypsy has been in Downtown Oakland for almost 9 years, and giving back and building community has always been part of what we do. I’m proud that we are now an official One Warm Coat sponsor and drop-off location.

And I want to remind our community that it’s not always about what we can get for free. We have to learn to GIVE, too. There is always someone who could use what we no longer want or need.

So look in those closets, y’all! That coat you haven’t worn could keep somebody else warm. ❤️

🖤✨ MEET THE QHG TEAM: SAINT X MEDIANOCHE ✨🖤

If you were at Release & Renew, then you already FELT the energy of x medianoche. 🎧

Saint X Medianoche DJ’d our event and helped us close the night through sound, movement, energy, and connection. We’re so excited to have them as part of the Queen Hippie Gypsy team.

X is an artist and sound designer whose work dances between spirituality, technology, sensation, sound, and space. Their work incorporates sub-bass, drones, organ tones, field recordings, moving image, and multichannel spatial audio to create experiences that aren’t just heard, they’re FELT.

With an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, X’s work has reached spaces including Grace Cathedral, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Chazen Museum of Art, SutroFM, Dublab, Temescal Art Center, and more.

X understands something we deeply believe at QHG: SOUND CAN SHIFT A SPACE. 🔊✨

We experienced that firsthand at Release & Renew, and we’re excited about what we’re creating together next.
