✍️It is so easy just to stay as you are and not come out of your comfort zone. This fear of failure is ringing so true for me at the moment as I have lost so much confidence in my calligraphy.

I’ve been practicing but have also been looking at other Instagram calligraphy sites and I did a course that went into so much detail including correct angles and I just thought wow, I will never be able to do that.

However I did another small course who advised to keep posting and practicing and you will find your own style. You will not believe how many times I have written these trying out different letter forms or not being happy with it. But today I thought just go for it, I don’t think I’ve found my style yet but as the quote says, I will keep trying 😀

I went to Beach Yoga this morning, what a fantastic way to start the day, total bliss. Thank you to Laura at Personal Best, who is the most amazing yoga teacher.

The seals unfortunately did not join us today, the first time I went to beach yoga they were so nosy I thought they may join in the yoga with us 😂

As I have started and re-started my facebook and instagram pages a number of times and recently changed the company name I thought I better introduce myself.

My name is Michelle and I live in Nairn in the Highlands of Scotland, I have lived here for 2 years, I used to live in Aberdeen. I originally set up a company called 'The Positive Scribe'. The original idea was based on Positive Psychology, which looks at character strengths and behaviours that make people happy. It was lockdown at the time and I had an idea of producing gratitude cards based on people's behaviours. To make these different I decided to write them in calligraphy, so I set about teaching myself calligraphy in lockdown. I did this by using a book my husband had bought years before and also a few online courses.

I fell in love with calligraphy, you can produce some beautiful pieces but it is not just that, to produce calligraphy you have to slow down so it is very therapeutic. I still do sell gratitude cards in my Etsy shop but they are a lot simpler than they were originally. It is now Calligraphy that is the heart of the business.

Things you might not know about me....

1. I qualified as a swimming teacher a few years ago and also run a Children's Swim School in Nairn called Michelle's Swim Stars.

2. I have been married for 25 years in November and have 2 children, who are only a year and 8 days apart!

3. I am in the third year of studying for a Psychology degree with the Open University and have a 2:1 degree in Business Studies from Napier University in Edinburgh.

4. I cannot draw at all but have found learning the formal structure of Copperplate lettering makes it able for me to produce art.

It's lovely to meet you all ❤️

After, a huge break, where I have moved house and just been really busy. I have eventually found my calligraphy tools at the bottom of a box and I’ve found my love for it again. My writing was very shaky at first but its amazing how quickly it comes back. I decided to practice by writing names on some reports I had to write recently.
