Last summer we learned about beneficial insects and built insect hotels. We experimented with leaf rubbings, nature paintings, and clay leaf imprints. Campers created their own terrariums, planted silly "grass head" gardens that grew into wild hairdos, and even helped create our community fairy garden!

It was four days full of creativity, nature, learning, and getting our hands dirty.

This summer we have lots of new projects and adventures planned, and I can't wait to share them with a whole new group of campers!

Camp Rooted returns July 13–16. If your child loves nature, art, and hands-on creativity, we'd love to have them join us!

A little behind the scenes fun fact.

A lot of people know me for the plants, but you may not know that I painted all of my plant care cards, my Crazy Plant Lovee logo, and many of the greeting cards you'll find at The Art Space 830.

I've always loved blending art and plants together, and it's one of my favorite parts of creating. From custom centerpieces to watercolor cards to care cards tucked into plant purchases, I love adding those personal touches that make things feel a little more special!

They do best in bright, indirect light and prefer to dry out slightly between waterings. plus, they look just as good on a shelf as they do hanging in a sunny corner.

What exactly is Crazy Plant Lovee?

The truth is, it's become so much more than plants.

It's curated plant designs nestled into vintage treasures. It's succulent workshops with friends, DIY kits that spark creativity at home, pop-up markets, community events, art camps, and hands-on experiences that encourage people of all ages to make something with their own two hands.

I've always believed that plants should feel approachable, inspiring, and fun. They have a way of bringing people together, slowing us down, and helping us connect—not just with nature, but with each other.

Crazy Plant Lovee blends plants, art, and hands-on experiences in ways that invite people to create, connect, and grow. Whether you meet me at a market, join a workshop, bring your child to camp, or take home a one-of-a-kind creation, my hope is that you leave feeling inspired and reminded that beauty can be found in unexpected places.

Check out how you can make your own recycled biodegradable pots. These are super easy and convenient to make!

I had a bunch of seedlings that needed to be up-sized but didn't have any planters that I could use, and they aren’t quite ready to be put in the ground yet. So I decided to make some!

I'm using some recycled brown paper that I cut into strips about 6in × 10-12in long. Any recycled paper will work, but I don't like to use anything with ink or a gloss.

You just want to wrap it around a hard cylindrical shape, leaving some haging off the bottom to be folded under. Make sure to really crimp the bottom so it stays under.

That's it! Then you can plant in it, and when you are ready to put seedlings in the ground, you can plant the whole thing.

Super easy and fun idea!
