Ella Fitzgerald famously known as "The First Lady Of Song", was born on April 25th, 1917 in Newport News, Virginia and became one of the most celebrated jazz vocalists in history.

Ella faced significant hardships in her early life including the loss of her mother and periods of homelessness, but gained fame after winning an amateur contest at the Apollo Theater in 1934.

While the world dismissed rap as noise, they saw the future. And they were teenagers.

MC Sha-Rock, the "Mother of the Mic," became the first female MC to grab the spotlight and prove women belonged at the center of rap, not the sidelines.

Roxanne Shanté was 14 when she dropped "Roxanne's Revenge" and defined what battle rap could be.

MC Lyte released her first single at 16 and at 17 became the first solo female rapper to drop a full studio album.

DJ Spinderella joined Salt-N-Pepa at 16 and turned the female DJ into a star, not a background technician.

They were writing, scratching, battling, and leading before the world even knew what hip hop would become.

Black teen girls didn't witness the rise of hip hop. They invented its language, its confidence, and its future.
