The Conviction you want on your Record (player)
is the one by the all female No Wave band UT.
What we have here is their debut full length release. This is a UK 1987 pressing on the legendary Blast💥First label.
For fans of DNA, Lydia Lunch, Birthday Party, The Raincoats, early Sonic Youth, Live Skull, Scissor Girls.

“On Conviction Ut's dissonance is refined into a queasy but constant tonality - at least, every song has a key, and it's generally E minor - and consequently songs emerge as if they've been dug up and scraped down, revealing hard edges but also an unexpected fluidity. In the studio the group's sound is able to expand into an ominous psychedelia that's more New Zealand than New York: "Phoenix" is a distant relative of Look Blue Go Purple's "Circumspect Penelope" and the raggedly chiming guitars of "Bedouin" would not sound out of place on an Xpressway compilation. Henry Cow's Tim Hodgkinson - who managed the Cold Storage studio where Conviction was recorded - provides a tangled but lyrical saxophone line to the brooding "Stain" which features another of Ham's ranting, almost cinematic vocal narratives. "Sick", with its refrain of "Violent colour", and two extra tracks, "Ampheta Speak" and "While I Wait" from an unreleased 7", are powered by the blocky, jolting anti-grooves of the no wave scene to which Ut are too often regarded as a footnote, but there are ideas here surging and spreading in numerous directions. ready to take their full form on Ut's two subsequent, uncategorisable albums.”

Join us for our First Friday Skill Share tomorrow! This is a casual workshop that anyone can drop into from 11am-4pm. We are asking for a $10 suggested donation to help cover supplies and continue our programming.
July's event explores how to make wheat paste. Wheat paste is a cheap, plastic-free alternative often used in displaying posters, book binding, and sculpture.
There is plenty of room to still browse records and books. Bring a friend and check out the space!
