Our little neighborhood here in Hague is having a community wide yard sale on Sept 19th.

Should we do a plant sale that same day and donate some of the proceeds to our neighborhood HOA?

To make it easier for myself and everyone else, I decided to make a Bonfire campaign where folks can purchase a variety of T-shirt, Tank top, and Crewneck combinations of our Native Plant of the Year!

I feel bad that I'm not going with an american, union made T with union printing, but I'll try my best to make that happen on the next go-round!

We're celebrating a native, nitrogen fixing pollinator plant that's too often overlooked. Supporting pollinators and fighting climate change starts with native plants...

NATIVE PLANT OF THE YEAR

Friends, the exciting announcements just don’t stop.

We are thrilled to announce our Native Plant of the Year: Clitoria mariana aka Atlantic Pigeonwings aka Butterfly Pea.

This vining, flowering member of the Pea family is a nitrogen fixer meaning it takes nitrogen from the air for growth and brings it into the soil. As a nitrogen fixer, this plant often comes first and lays the groundwork for soil health to allow other plants to grow and bloom.

T-shirts are available for an expected $25, but no more than $30. We also hope to offer stickers, magnets, and framed 8x10s as a series on often overlooked but important pillars in our native plant ecosystem. We are still sorting out vendors/printing but expect the T-shirts to be made in the US with 100% cotton and preferably union-made.

We stand with and join the public boycott of Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden until they resolve their conflict with their union.

A labor dispute at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Henrico County is escalating after unionized employees called for a public boycott and two artists canceled scheduled performances in support of workers demanding higher wages.
