Well, today is the day. Old School Music is no more, as from close of business today. Matt Coron will take over the space and the business, under the name of The Music Box.

This vintage amp was purchased at Marquette Music in January of 1974. It has the serial number BN00649, and I am the original owner. It's looking for a new home.

Well, here we are in May. The latest update is that the business will be sold as of June 1, 2013. Between now and then, I'm still here most of the time, except for medical appointments and such. I'm selling some of my personal gear, as I don't really want to carry the heavy stuff anymore. So I'll be posting pictures over the next couple days. As always, feel free to drop in or call for any of your musical needs. We've always got supplies and accessories for band instruments as well as combo instruments.

I'm sorry that I haven't kept all of you posted on our little saga. For those of you who don't follow my personal page, I have a tumor on my pancreas, and have been back and forth with my health insurance company since December about getting diagnosis and treatment. They have been obdurate, and I've been frustrated. Because I'm retired military, my health insurance (I use the term loosely) is provided (I use that term even more loosely) by a company called TriCare (two lies for the price of one!).
In December my primary doc in Ishpeming referred me to Mayo Clinic for diagnosis and treatment. TriCare denied coverage and sent me back to Marquette. Dr. Szember in Marquette attempted a biopsy, and referred me to University of Michigan Hospital. TriCare denied coverage and sent me back to Marquette.
That's pretty much where we are now. We still haven't got a biopsy of the tumor, which has grown quite a bit since December. Hopefully, we'll know something this week. But, until then, I'm not sure we should start lessons. I don't want to teach a week or two, then leave to go into the hospital.
I beg your indulgence, and promise that as soon as I get enough information to plan a teaching schedule, I will contact all my students and try to salvage whatever's left of the semester. I apologize for the inconvenience, and thank you for your support.
We are keeping the store open as much as possible, and continuing with instrument sales, rental and repair.

The fall term begins Monday, September 10. Those returning students who haven't scheduled their lesson time yet should do that soon! And those students in band should already have their instruments ready to go. Don't forget, we've got reeds, strings, maintenance kits and more, right here in beautiful downtown Ishpeming!

Old School will be closed Tuesday and Thursday from about 12:30 until about 2:45 for the next couple months. I've started the Pulmonary Rehab program at Bell Hospital, and I'll be doing that until mid-July. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I need to get healthy.
