📍 Handmade in South Carolina "Moon + Mountain" is the showcase name dedicated to the work of a female artist that creates personalized horse hair jewelry and keepsakes from the mane and tail hair of beloved horses - past and present. The horse hair used in our products come from the manes or tails of horses that belong(ed) to our customers, but we have a supply of hair from horses that our owner and creator, Rebecca, has worked with on a personal level over the years. None of the horse hair that we use has been obtained illegally or abusively, nor were any horses harmed in the collection of their hair. Our products can be endlessly personalized by including beads, charms, embellishments, leather cording, chain, name-tags, and more. I know I've been a bit quiet these last few days. Again... 🤦🏼‍♀️

And while I realize the algorithm is going to HATE that, I've been busy playing "teacher" with my son in his homeschooling! 👩🏼‍🏫

But rest assured that I AM working on keepsakes - specifically, a hat band that so far has turned out absolutely PERFECT in my opinion! 🤩

I just don't have the mental capacity to take photos, edit them, post them, put together a well-worded essay, and show y'all 🫠

Yes. A lot of Moon + Mountain's marketing graphics are created with the help of AI lately.

You know what isn't?

✨The keepsakes.✨

AI isn't sitting at my desk.

AI isn't washing and sorting your horse's hair.

AI isn't braiding it strand by strand.

AI isn't threading beads, working with resin, attaching clasps, fixing the braid I screwed up halfway through (again), or crawling around on the floor looking for the microscopic jump ring that I just dropped for the sixth time. 🙃

AI doesn't read the stories you send me about the horse whose hair I'm holding.

AI doesn't understand why that little bundle of tail hair sitting on my desk is absolutely priceless to the person who trusted me with it.

I DO.

Every bracelet, necklace, keychain, dream catcher, ornament, and keepsake that leaves Moon + Mountain is made by my very real hands, at my very real workbench, using hair from very real horses who are very, very loved. 🖤

I have gotten SO MANY messages this week asking about having keepsakes made.

"What can you make with this?"
"How much would this cost?"
"Can you do something like this?"
"How do I send you the hair?"
"Can you make one for me?"

And every single time I'm over here like:

YES. YES I CAN. PLEASE LET ME MAKE THE PRETTY THING. 😭😂

But somehow, despite all of these conversations...
