I’ve got news!
Ahead of my website launch this week (I know, it’s been a slow process), I’d like to share a little something I’ve been exploring for the past several months.
Through the historical archives and many conversations with the curators, I’ve uncovered that I am not a fourth-generation candy maker.
I am fifth!
It turns out that those (men) involved with writing history, have left off a tiny little detail - that this whole fudge dynasty was started by a woman!
Imagine that!
My great, great grandmother, Sarah, was the one who initially possessed the confectionery skills which she brought with her when she married Henry, my great, great grandfather.
It was Sarah who worked tirelessly in the early days and you’ll find more about her journey when you read the updated story on my website, kamurdicksfudge.com
I wish to thank Phil Porter, author of, FUDGE, Mackinac’s Sweet Souvenir, and Brian Jaeschke, curator of collections for Mackinac State Historic Parks, whose work includes countless hours of research and record collecting. Your combined efforts have contributed greatly to mine and my family‘s legacy, and I’m eternally grateful.
I suspect Sarah is, too.
