Something exciting is emerging from our community conversations.
As people share the materials they have, the skills they know, the problems they encounter, and the solutions they’ve already developed, we’re beginning to identify opportunities that could create environmental, social, and economic value right here in Chautauqua County.
Among the areas we’re actively exploring are:
- Building-material salvage and deconstruction
- Community Material Exchanges and Material Hubs
- Tool sharing and practical-skills development
- Business and manufacturing material reuse
- New uses for agricultural and organic materials
- Food redistribution and food-waste solutions
- Materials innovation and new product development
- Turning local skills and making into micro-enterprise opportunities
- Preserving and applying traditional knowledge
- Better ways of connecting people, materials, skills, spaces, and opportunities
One thing is becoming increasingly clear:
Our community already possesses many of the ingredients needed to build something valuable.
Materials.
Skills.
Knowledge.
People.
Spaces.
Ideas.
The opportunity is in connecting them.
UpcycleCHQ is moving beyond simply identifying what gets thrown away. We’re working to understand how resources already present in our communities can remain in circulation longer, reduce costs, inspire innovation, strengthen local makers and businesses, and create new economic opportunities.
And we’re beginning to turn what we’re learning into practical experiments, partnerships, research, and community initiatives.
