Great Lakes Region of AMTA The Great Lakes Region (GLR) is one of seven regions within the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA).

The states in the GLR include Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

Here's the last round of introductions for the 2026 - 2027 GLR AMTAS Officers! Today, meet Webmaster Thalia Trump and DEIAJ Advocate Rowan Rodriguez, as well as the Student Advisor, Dana Casteel.

Thalia Trump is enrolled at Cleveland State University for music therapy and in her final stretch of undergrad. She is currently completing her music therapy internship at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. While at CSU, she was involved in their music therapy student group. Her main instruments are voice and guitar, but she also enjoys playing piano and ukulele! She also worked in the music therapy lending library and helped run the CSU music therapy Instagram for the past two years. Outside of music therapy, Thalia loves anything post-production/editing-related (video or photo editing), gaming, spending time with her friends, playing Dungeons & Dragons, writing, and traveling.

Rowan Rodriguez is entering his junior year at Eastern Michigan University for his undergraduate music therapy degree and disability studies minor. He has been involved with Eastern Music Therapy Student Association for the last 2 years and just finished his term as one of the members at large for the org. He’s also an active member of EMU’s Kappa Kappa Psi honorary band fraternity, currently serving as the Vice President for Membership. He’s also the current Uniform Manager AND Music Librarian for the EMU Marching Band. His primary instrument is the flute. But has dabbled in guitar, piano, trombone, and euphonium. Outside of School, Rowan enjoys reading, gardening, cooking, painting, working out, especially running, and spending quality time with friends.

Dana Casteel (she/her) received her Bachelor’s in Music Therapy, with a minor in Communication Sciences and Disorders, from Cleveland State University in 2023 and completed her internship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s Western Psychiatric Hospital and the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She previously served on the GLR-AMTAS Executive Board throughout her undergraduate education in the roles of Treasurer, Vice-President, and President and is thrilled to be serving as the Student Advisor!

Continuing with the 2026 - 2027 GLR AMTAS Officer introductions, meet Treasurer Hannah Crellin and Parliamentarian Lily Fillippelli.

Hannah Crellin is entering her junior year at the University of Dayton, where she is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Music Therapy. She is an active member of the university’s Music Therapy Club! Hannah’s primary instrument is voice, but she also enjoys playing guitar and piano. In addition, she plays clarinet in the University of Dayton Symphonic Wind Ensemble. She works on campus as a Music Student Ambassador and Choral Librarian. She also represents the Class of 2028 on the university’s Music Student Advisory Committee (MUSAC). Throughout her time at Dayton so far, Hannah has participated in several ensembles, including World Music Choir, Ebony Heritage Singers, and Symphonic Wind Ensemble.

Lily Filippelli is entering her fourth year at Cleveland State University, where she is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Music Therapy with a minor in Music. She has been an active member of the CSU Student Music Therapy Club for the past three years and will serve as the club's president this year. Lily plays saxophone in CSU's Big Band and also plays guitar, ukulele, and piano, and enjoys singing. She works as a student assistant in the School of Music and at Royalton Music Center. Outside of school, Lily loves to read, play video games, and make music with her friends.

Next in the introductions of 2026 -2027 GLR AMTAS Officers, we feature Vice President Elyse Schurman and Secretary Megan Knapke.

Elyse Schurman finished her coursework at Western Michigan University in the Spring of 2026. In September, she will be starting her internship at Harmony Garden Music Therapy in Jackson, Michigan. Elyse loves all things music therapy thus, she has chosen an internship working with all ages and populations. She has given two presentations regarding music therapy. One at GLR Passages 2026 regarding her experience co-treating with Speech Language Pathology students and one at Haworth about what music therapy is. Outside of music therapy, she works in Adult Foster Care as a Direct Support Professional. She also volunteers at The Lazy Cat Lounge a cat cafe in her hometown Holland, Michigan.

Megan Knapke is entering her senior year at the University of Dayton for her undergraduate music therapy degree and psychology minor. She has been involved with the UD Music Therapy Club for 3 years, and she is excited to continue to represent the club as president for a second year this year! Megan’s primary instrument is voice, but she also loves to play piano, ukulele, and guitar. She works at UD as an Undergraduate Music Minister and as a seamstress in the theater department's Costume Shop. Megan has been involved in many ensembles at UD, including the University Chorale, the Ebony Heritage Singers, and Hands in Harmony, a sign language choir. She will be entering her fourth practicum this year as well.
In her free time, Megan enjoys dancing, choreographing, sewing, writing music, and spending time with her friends and family. She also loves volunteering at Cincinnati Children's Hospital.

First up in the introductions of the 2026 - 2027 GLR AMTAS Officers, we have President Claire Ginley & President-Elect Annabeth Feltz. Read more about them below!

Claire Ginley is a recent graduate from the University of Dayton with her degree in music therapy and has just begun her AMTA internship with Reserve Care this summer. At UD, Claire was an Undergraduate Music Minister, a member of Music Therapy, and a voice primary participating in multiple ensembles and in a neighborhood band, PetalBomb. Within the department of music, Claire enjoyed her time as the Student Media Coordinator, a Music Office Worker, and Student Ambassador. Currently, Claire is completing her internship in Cleveland, Ohio, where she is from and enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Annabeth Feltz is a current junior at the University of Dayton, completing coursework in music therapy alongside philosophy and psychology minors. She is thrilled and honored to be stepping into the role of president-elect for the 2026-2027 year! Annabeth works as an Undergraduate Music Minister, music librarian, and music theory tutor at UD. Her primary instrument is voice, but she can also regularly be found playing many other instruments, including piano, guitar, and ukulele. She has participated in UD's World Music Choir, Underscore A Ca****la, Vocal Performance Ensemble, and Javanese Gamelan Ensemble, and currently sings as a member of the Ebony Heritage Singers, UD's gospel choir, and Hands in Harmony, a sign language choir.

The Call for Nominations of President-Elect ends tomorrow, Wednesday, 8/12/26!

This will be a short-term position, serving as President-Elect from September 2026 - April 3, 2027. The elected individual will become President of the GLR on April 3, 2027 (serving as President from 2027-2029 and Past-President from 2029-2031).
Timeline: Nominations close and Candidate Information Forms due by August 12. The election will occur between August 24 - September 4, 2026.
