🐾 Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

Today we’re celebrating our four-legged friends, the loyal companions, the comic relief, and the ones who somehow always know when you’re having a bad day.

These dog figurines may not wag their tails or beg for treats, but they certainly bring plenty of personality to the room. From charming and classic to wonderfully quirky, there’s a pup for every dog lover.

Featured Friday: Who among us does not need good fortune? When first researching this lovely grouping of Chinese immortals, it soon became evident that one would need a PhD in Chinese theology to confidently attach the correct names to them. Three of life's most important aspirations in Chinese traditional thought are the favorable blessings of happiness (fú), professional success or prosperity (lù), and longevity (shòu). These are visually represented by the three "star gods" of the same names commonly depicted as three male figures, each wearing a distinctive garment and holding an object, such as a scroll, a staff, a peach or other attribute. Additionally, you will find Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, possessing supernatural strength and magical abilities. He, along with the Elder Scholar, are featured on clouds (xiangyun), symbolizing celestial blessing and the continual flow of life. Together these Chinese porcelain figurines symbolize the hopes that we all share in achieving good fortune. Come take home an immortal—and perhaps invite a little of that good fortune into your own life! See them upstairs at The Second Act in A&W Antique Mall.

Calm, collected, and effortlessly beautiful, green has a way of bringing a little sense of peace to a room. From hand painted iris pieces and a graceful green vase to a petite Jasperware plate and a charming teacup pincushion, these pieces show just how lovely a little green can be.

Featured Friday: If you love the water and have an appreciation of original artwork, then you must see this little collection of oil paintings. The larger is a vintage 13x15 maritime oil on canvas of tall majestic sailing ships by W.Vennekamp, a 20th century German artist. His work often has an almost impressionistic, semi-realistic quality, particularly in his depictions of sailing ships and sailboats at sunset. Dramatic, glowing sunsets meet twilight horizons, while deeper hues are reflected across the water, creating a sense of depth and movement that draws the eye right into its serenity.
The two smaller vintage 9 × 7 oil paintings depict fishing schooners moored peacefully in a harbor and are lovely examples of coastal marine art. Both are signed by the artist, Ester M. Ortman, adding a wonderful personal touch to these charming maritime scenes. You know that you have a perfect spot for one, or all three!
