🐲☕️This morning, I want to brag on a bean that's a little different from the others in our lineup - a wet-hulled Sumatra Mandheling from Indonesia - represented by our Acorn creature!🐲☕️

Our Sumatra Mandheling is Grade 1, the highest official quality tier in Sumatran coffee. We use this bean for our French roast. Many beans don't hold up well to such a dark roast, but Sumatra Mandheling is different. This roast doesn't taste burnt. It tastes strong, earthy, and SO SMOOTH.

Sumatra Mandheling is naturally very low in acidity. Add to that the air-roasting process and the very dark roast level... this brew manages to be ultra smooth and super low in acidity while still maintaining its bold flavor and much of its nice, thick, velvety body.

We also add a small percentage of this bean into our Mermaid blend. This strategy allows the complexity of the Guatemala and Brazil to still shine while adding to the body and reducing the overall acidity of the blend.

Our Acorn guy (and our Mermaid blend) is present for free trials at every market and festival we attend! We hope you'll give him a chance sometime soon!

So, so many hands involved in the coffee process.

When I’m packing up fragrant, freshly roasted beans, sometimes it really hits me. I feel like I’ve worked hard… but in reality, SO many more hours of painstaking work has already happened. I am so grateful to take part in a global project… and I’m not even the last one in the chain! Someone still has to brew them!

SAVOR every last drop of your morning brew, knowing those beans have been through quite a journey 🫶🏻

I would love a vote here! What’s YOUR favorite roast level? In the specialty coffee world, things have been leaning to the lighter side… but in our beautiful little community, I have personally received a much higher percentage of requests for darker roasts. Today I want to give a special shout-out to the very first wholesale partner who believed in us.

About a year and a half ago, when we were still new and learning the ropes, they took a chance on our little coffee business. Since then, they’ve supported us every step of the way, and we’ll never forget that.

In many ways, our Guatemalan bean is the star of the show. ⭐️

Not only is it our organic, single-origin, unflavored medium roast (featured as our Cyclops creature) and a large component of our Mermaid blend, but it's also the bean behind every flavored coffee in our standard lineup!

Grown nearly 6,000 feet above sea level on the volcanic slopes of Acatenango, Guatemala, this organic coffee comes from Finca La Hermosa, where Max and Claudia Pérez partner with neighboring farming families to produce exceptional specialty coffee. By sharing their processing mill and expertise, they're helping dozens of local farmers earn better prices while preserving sustainable, organic farming practices.

The result is a smooth, balanced cup with notes of milk chocolate, caramel, and toasted nuts.
