EGGS ๐Ÿฅš today at the honey stand! These are all washed eggs so they require refrigeration.

The eggs are in the white cooler at the honey stand. They are anywhere from one to three week old eggs; in grocery store terms thatโ€™s not old at all but I donโ€™t like to sell eggs as old as three weeks, so I have a 30 pack of the older eggs in the cooler for FREE!

We also have:
2 dozen pack small eggs (from my new layers) $2
18 pack large eggs $3
2 dozen pack large eggs $4

Once I get these older eggs moved out I will begin selling our fresh eggs. ๐Ÿ™‚

๐Ÿ“ 496 Fish Hatchery Rd, Sweetwater

Cash payment in the lock box on the honey stand please - or pay for eggs using the Venmo QR code on the cooler.

Our forecast high today is 98 degrees - with a heat index of 108! ๐Ÿ˜ง Everyone needs to stay hydrated - including the bees! ๐Ÿ We keep several drinkers out for the bees and wildlife, including these 5 gallon chicken drinkers. Bees are terrible swimmers - we use rocks in the bottom to keep them from drowning!

Main Street Marketplace Sweetwater offers a great opportunity each month for local makers, bakers, crafters and growers with their farmerโ€™s market! The market is held on the last Saturday of each month, spring through fall. ๐Ÿ‚

This month, we have some family time scheduled that weekend so we are unable to attend. But if youโ€™re looking for a place to sell your items, we highly recommend you check this out! Space cost is very reasonable, and the exposure is fantastic!

Iโ€™ll tag some local businesses in the comments, and if thereโ€™s anyone youโ€™d like to see at the farmerโ€™s market please tag them as well!

If youโ€™ve been on our page for a while, you know about our sourwood honey harvest this year. If youโ€™re a recent addition - welcome! Allow us to tell you about sourwood honey!

Sourwood honey is made from nectar of the flowers on the sourwood tree Sourwood trees are native to North America, and are most common in lower chain of the Appalachian Mountains. Peak nectar flow occurs for roughly two weeks, and somewhere between 1600โ€™ - 2300โ€™ elevation. Location and timing are everything! Last year we attempted to catch the sourwood flow, and were unsuccessful, probably a little late and we heard later that it also wasnโ€™t a good flow.

This year though? This year we feel like we caught lightning in a bottle! โšก๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Honestly, I donโ€™t know that we will ever top this yearโ€™s sourwood harvest!

To have a shot at a sourwood harvest, we first had to move some bees to the right spot. Our bees yards here in Sweetwater are around 900โ€™ elevation. So, we loaded 18 colonies on a trailer and temporarily relocated them. Fortunately, friends in Coker Creek ๐Ÿ’–offered to let us park our bees on their property again - 1700โ€™ elevation, and in a lovely area surrounded by sourwood trees.

Robโ€™s timing was a tiny bit early but really spot on - the bees had time to settle in before getting to work. And work, they did! Those girls brought in the BEST sourwood honey we have ever tasted! ๐Ÿ˜ We quickly sent off a sample to a honey and pollen testing lab, and when the results came back we were floored: โ€œ๐™ฌ๐™š ๐™š๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ข๐™–๐™ฉ๐™š ๐™ฉ๐™๐™–๐™ฉ ๐™ฉ๐™๐™ž๐™จ ๐™๐™ค๐™ฃ๐™š๐™ฎ ๐™ž๐™จ ๐™˜๐™ก๐™ค๐™จ๐™š๐™ง ๐™ฉ๐™ค 97% ๐™Š๐™ญ๐™ฎ๐™™๐™š๐™ฃ๐™™๐™ง๐™ช๐™ข.โ€ ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป This is incredible - to be called any type of varietal, a honey only needs to have greater than 50% of a specific source variety (clover, tulip poplar, etc) - so to be this close to 100% is amazing. ๐Ÿคฉ

Sourwood honey has lovely buttery flavor with a light caramel finish - and you can find our sourwood honey at the following locations:

๐Ÿ“ Self-serve honey stand, 496 Fish Hatchery Rd, Sweetwater
๐Ÿ“ Sweet Fannie Maeโ€™s, 305. N. Main St, Sweetwater
๐Ÿ“ The Shops of Monroe, 4023 Hwy 411, Madisonville
๐Ÿ“ Noble Curiosities, 511 N. Main St, Sweetwater
