This holiday is important to many people of many backgrounds.
Whether you’re celebrating the birth of The Nazarene or just the magic of the season, there is one thing that is universal to this beautiful holiday; Love.
Today is a day we spend with family, friends, and loved ones.
There’s a story I want to tell you.
Long ago, in the early centuries, there walked an old, wise owl across the branches of an ancient oak. Making blessings and gifts to the children of the forest. During a season when the realm of the spirits runs rampant on the earth, there is one day when the world simply stands still. Many believe that this day signifies the moment when, silently, under a blanket of stars and angels, a savior arrived. Some believe it’s the rebirth of the Sun God. But this old owl? He didn’t care. He didn’t care what holiday it was or what savior humanity celebrated.
What he believed was that on this day, the Deep Magic flowed and the earth was quiet. The love he felt in his heart for the other creatures who honored the forest alongside him was inexplicable, but he knew it was there.
His gift to the world was spreading that love unconditionally and praising the soil below him for its gifts. Dancing under the rising sun, he continued his work. Weaving baskets for gifts and picking apples for children. He hummed a small song to himself while he worked.
_“A gift for them, a gift for you. With magic, blessed, and a prayer or two.”_
On this day, a truce stood in the forest. No predator hunted his prey, no shrew felt the need to hide. The animals all stood in unison, singing songs of the forest and the Deep Magic and collecting the Holly and the Ivy to lay the woodland table for a great feast. Above, the Old, Wise Owl continued.
As the feast began, he passed out his gifts. Blessing the creatures of the forest with prosperous springs and an abundant new year. Together, they sat and they celebrated, feasting on berry pies and fruit. Laughing together and praising the earth for its beauty.
But what is to be learned from this?
It’s the Deep Magic. That Deep Magic that flows through all of us. The Owl, a great and wise hunter, sat down his instincts to make gifts for the Shrew. The Fox gifted pies to the Doves, the Bear gave flowers to the Salmon, the Crow gave fresh soil to the Worms. Hunting didn’t matter, instincts, Prey. What mattered was that on this day, The world stood in unity as they stayed warm by the Great Fire and danced.
Remember this, good friends, as you celebrate amongst yourselves today. Your instincts, your battles, your grievances? Leave them at home in a box in your closet.
Today we celebrate love, we celebrate our abundance, we celebrate our blessings!
For that Deep Magic that flows through all of us, and today, on the day the sun is born once more, the day a savior was born, the day that love wins over,
Ask yourself one question;
What does love mean to me?
My answer? Love means a safety, family, it means everything.
May the Deep Magic bless you and your family in this season and on this beautiful day. ✨
Merry Christmas
