So many lovely midsummer floral crowns were made today at Day Two of our Midsummer Solstice Market! Thank you to all who came by. The festivities continue once more on Sunday June 21 from 11 AM to 4 PM. Join us for the celebration with more floral crowns and with homemade midsummer treats, both on the house, while the shop is open for fun, eclectic shopping. By then, the solstice will have come and gone: 4:24 AM Sunday brings this year’s solstice moment here in Lake Worth.

It’s Juneteenth! I was so pleased to turn on Symphony Hall on Sirius XM to find them playing the works of African American composers today. I got to hear two of my favorites: Florence Price and Scott Joplin (“Solace” floors me every time I hear it).

This is a painting of our ancestral home in Lucera, in Italy. My aunt was born there, my grandmother was probably born there, too. My great-grandparents lived there. An awful lot of cooking and feasting was done there.

At our next Convivio Cookery workshop, this Saturday from 11 to 1, I’ll teach you to make one of the old family recipes from that home: an obscure and astonishingly delicious pasta called Mambricoli. You’ll make a batch and take it home with you to serve for dinner on Saturday evening. We have room for 5 more around our Convivio Bookworks table. $85.
