A few important announcements as we head into the holiday season!

-All non-custom prints are 15% through November 30!

-The shop will be closed December 1-10.

-If you're interested in custom map prints, please order by December 12 for the best chance of having it delivered before Christmas.

And remember, be kind (always) to retailers and delivery service providers, especially during this busy season!

Ready for another calendar destination breakdown? Let's head to Mayrhofen, Austria for the Snowbombing festival.

First things first, I am not a snow-sporter (is that a word?) I love a day in a cabin or around a fire while snow falls outside, but put me on skis or a snowboard, and it's all downhill from there (but not in the way you're supposed to go downhill.)

Alright, so back to Snowboming in Mayrhofen:
-This festival has been going on for ~20 years
-It's just as much about shredding down the mountain as it is about apres ski party and music.
-It's been described as the "Glastonbury of ski festivals", so there ya go.

Oh, Dublin. A city that has my heart. 💚

I visited Dublin in June 2015, so while I haven't experienced the Saint Patrick's Day celebrations in Ireland, my birthday just happens to be March 17th, so it's a pretty special day every year no matter what.

Hm, so should I share facts about myself or about the history of Saint Patrick's Day? 😉

-Saint Patrick's Day, held on the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, commemorates the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, but it also celebrates Irish heritage and culture.

-Historically, Christians who were observing Lenten restrictions were given a pass on Saint Patrick's Day so they could partake in the food and drink. 🍻

-Have you ever heard that Saint Patrick "drove the snakes out of Ireland"? Okay, it wasn't actual snakes (although, I'm a big fan of Ireland being free of real snakes.) As a priest, Saint Patrick worked to convert thousands of people from Celtic paganism to Christianity which grew into the allegory that many of us know today. 🐍

Oh, and I’ll make sure your calendar is free of cat hair before I send it…

I've only been to two of the cities in my 2023 calendar -- which is why it basically doubles as my own personal bucket list. Let me know if you’ve been to this next calendar destination! ⬇️

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is the feature city for February! Why? Carnival of course! Here's a few fast facts about one of the world's biggest celebrations:

-Carnival is a Catholic festival that happens right before Lent. It's considered a feast before a season of fasting (anyone else grow up skipping meat on Fridays during Lent?)

-The Carnival in Rio is one of the biggest in the world with 2 million people celebrating every day!

-The parades include more than 200 samba schools (local samba dance clubs)

-The 2023 festival will be back after having to be canceled due to COVID-19 🎉

My 2023 calendar features 12 unique designs of city skylines from around the world. Each location is matched to a festival or cultural event that takes place during that month. Researching for this calendar was a blast but it was so hard to narrow down the choices and now I've got 12 new festivals on my bucket list.

Over the next few days, I'll be sharing all 12 illustrations and a little bit about the festival taking place that month. So, if you're looking for travel inspiration, I've got you covered. Ready? Let's go!

January features Sapporo, Japan for its annual Sapporo Snow Festival! Have you ever been?

-Features hundreds of snow statues and ice sculptures ⛄️

-It started in 1950 by a few high school students that built six snow statues.

-In 2007, two million people visited the festival.

A few of the skyline features are:

-The famous Sapporo Beer Factory 🍺
-The iconic TV tower 🗼
-Hokkaido-Jingu Shrine, built in 1871
