🕯️Light After the Storm ⛈️

Our community has been through a lot this past week with the tornado and derecho storm. While some of us have had our power and routines restored, many of our neighbors are still waiting for that light to return.

So we wanted to create a little space for ~hope, comfort, protection, and community.~

Our new ~Light After the Storm~ altar is here for anyone who needs it.

💛Take a Hope— choose a little blessing to carry with you.

🕯️Leave a Light— write a message of hope, encouragement, or support for someone in our community.

You don’t have to believe in magic to participate. Sometimes a little reminder that ~we are not alone~ is magic enough.

For everyone still cleaning up, rebuilding, waiting, worrying, or simply trying to find their footing again:

Good morning lovelies and Happy Friday!
The shop kept power all night, and fridges have been restocked with milks, so we are officially reopen and can serve you our wicked lattes again! (No food yet besides pastries).

I am aware a lot of us are still out of power (my home included). I hope everyone is safe and OK as they can be in such times.
If you need a place to recharge (whether it be by caffeine, or your phones), we are here. AC is running too, so come get out of the humidity.

*******Just kidding… after about an hour and a half, we lost power again. Hopefully it returns soon… we will update when any changes happen 🙃******

Power has been restored here at the shop!
We’re hoping it stays on too 🤞🏻
We appreciate the hard work of Village of Lansing Public Works, ComEd, and the rest of the cleanup crews working hard around here. It’s still a mess and will be for a while.
•We won’t be able to restock our milks & groceries until tomorrow, as we have to wait til the fridges go back down to the correct temperatures. But today we will be open again til 7pm for retail shopping. And assuming power stays on, tomorrow we can plan to start serving coffee again around 9am!

I know power is slowly being restored around town (my house is still out as well). But if you need a spot to hang and recharge, I am here at the shop!

*Thursday AM Edit/Update* ComEd reports our area may not get power restored til Saturday evening. We’re still hoping for sooner, but with all the downed power lines, chances are low.
But online orders are still open for retail 24/7. Anything orders during normal business hours will ship same day. After hours will ship the next AM.
I’ll be around from 9am-2ish for anyone who wants to come in person for retail.

Hello! Our side of town is still without power, it could be restored as soon as tonight/tomorrow, or as late as Saturday. We will keep you updated!
However, I did want to point out that tho the café side is closed, our retail side is still available for online orders!
I (Sara) am currently at the shop, hanging out with Gryffin and cleaning out our fridges ( 😢 ). I’ll be here for a few hours this afternoon, if you want to come and shop the retail side, while we still have sunlight coming through our windows.
Online orders placed before 7pm will be available for pickup same day. We can also ship out orders if you can’t make it in person.

Tuesday 8/11/26 • The storms from this morning knocked out power for our entire area. Not expecting it to be restored the rest of today.
Still waiting to hear from ComEd for estimated restoration times.
There are a lot of trees uprooted and power lines down around here in Lansing and Munster. If you must travel out, do so carefully. We appreciate the hard work of the cleanup crews!

We often think magick has to be something extraordinary—a perfectly decorated altar, an elaborate ritual, or a grand moment of transformation.

But some of the most meaningful magick is found in the ordinary.

☕Savoring your favorite drink.
📚Reading one page of a book you’ve been meaning to start or finish.
🌼Stopping to admire a flower growing through the sidewalk.
🌙Looking up and whispering “thank you” to the moon.
💜Sharing a smile or a kind word with someone who might need it.

Those little moments remind us to slow down, to notice, and to reconnect with ourselves and the world around us.

Magick isn’t always something we create.
Sometimes it’s simply something we choose to notice.

To my Mugs & Magick family,

I wanted to share something that’s been on my heart.

First, thank you. Every coffee, every crystal, every workshop, every recommendation, every share, and every visit has helped turn Mugs & Magick into more than a shop—it has become a community.

Lately, we’ve watched more and more small businesses around us close their doors. It’s heartbreaking, and the truth is... we’re feeling that same pressure.

This isn’t a goodbye letter or meant to make anyone feel guilty. I’d simply rather be honest than quietly disappear one day without ever letting you know how much this place —and all of you— mean to me.

Small businesses don’t survive on occasional visits alone. They survive because people choose to come back over visiting the chain establishments, tell their friends, leave reviews, share posts, and spread the word.
