When your favorite repeat customer requests bookmarks, you make her a cute bookmark because one cannot just have a basic bookmark. One must have a good book, a cup of tea, a snack and a bookmark that is both a cup of tea and a snack.

I rarely make baby/toddler blankets unless by custom order or request. My favorite repeat customer ordered this toddler blanket and let me select the colors. 3 weeks later, a checkerboard pattern blanket is ready to be mailed.

I know Thanksgiving is past but I wanted to share 3 things I'm grateful for. When I 1st started this journey of crocheting, my little sister Shontaye taught me. I was going through rough times mentally. Our mama taught her and she taught me. She's left handed, I'm right. I sat on the floor in front of her and tried to follow her hand movements. The first stitch i learned was a double crochet. The first blanket i made was crooked. My older sister, Nakia took it instead of letting me throw it away. I started off slow, made a lot of random small things. I learned from YouTube. I taught myself other stitches. I made my mom and my mama ponchos. Then my mama saw a doll creator on Facebook and wanted a doll so bad. I couldn't afford one. Beautiful work, but I couldn't afford $300. But I wanted her to have one. So I tried my hand at making one by myself. How hard could it be? That doll was ugly! It was hard! I wanted to throw the doll away, but my mama wanted it. And kept the ugly thing, proud as can be. (I've included pics). I bought the pattern from the original creator, Aniqua Wilkerson's etsy shop (MyKindaThing), determined to make a pretty doll for my mama. I taught myself how to read it. That was hard too. These patterns look like gibberish. But I finished her. Brown skin, green romper, green shoes, varying colors of green curls. My mama loved that doll too. Kept her until she passed. I have her back. She has sat by my bed on my nightstand. Both of them do, the very first doll i made for my mama and the last one. Next month, it will be 2 years since she "shuffled off this mortal coil" and left us alone in this world. So, the things (people) I'm grateful for: my sister Shontaye BlaqueMahogany Harkness for teaching me to crochet my first stitches and saving my broken mind; my sister Nakia Harkness-Ceniceros for wanting/keeping that first wonky blanket and every other thing I've since made her; and for my mama Laydey Tayz Tate for being my biggest fan, pushing me forward, encouraging me and keeping every weird and beautiful thing i made her and promoting my work.
