Poe & his cats, ya know? But maybe I’m no different…

Every August 8, the world celebrates International Cat Day, created in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare to celebrate cats while raising awareness about their welfare, protection, and care.

Cats have lived beside us for thousands of years, yet they have never completely lost their air of mystery. Independent, observant, affectionate, and sometimes wonderfully strange, they have also become inseparable from folklore, superstition, witches, and gothic imagination.

And few writers understood their mysterious charm better than Edgar Allan Poe. Poe adored cats and shared his home with Catterina, his beloved tortoiseshell cat. Accounts say she would sit on his shoulder while he wrote, quietly keeping him company as the pages filled with some of literature’s darkest visions.

I got a subtle reminder to post about my newest wall art…

In my computer screen, the reflection caught my eye & demanded attention! He is a hardened rubber hand that I nailed into a wooden plaque & I just have to be honest, I let him be whatever he wanted to be. In this case, he got painted in a gradient of cold blue tones & mossed up just a bit. I asked if he wanted decorating beyond that & was promptly flipped off. So I guess he’s ready to sell!

Operation Cure-a-Snail is in effect.

My latest batch of Happy Snails have a sticky layer of sealer! So I’m dehumidifying the shop &, following the advice of Super Crafter Heroes, am sealing them up with some rice for a bit. The idea is to get the sealer to finish curing. Wish me luck! I’d hate to toss the whole batch.

As usual we will be collecting donations for a local animal rescue and we have chosen the Humane Society of Houston County for this market. Admission is just $5, or bring a donation of pet food, treats, toys, or other pet supplies for the shelter.

I was gifted some wishbones! My luck runs deep, but I’m never lucky enough to find an intact one on my own. This is a textured silver frame, 10x4”, with moss, bone, real ammonite, amethyst, & clay mushrooms. Letters are stamped. Mood is quirky.

3D printed vs clay/plaster

I was thrilled to learn how to use the 3D printer, & it is so inexpensive to print little products like the female statue on the left. But the texture of the plaster male statue is so much more appealing to me, ESPECIALLY after being painted. How are you using 3D products in your art? I’m not sure there’s much future for the plastic in mine… just can’t get over the texture.
