Wondering what to do, how to make an impact during this time we are all living through? You are not alone, many are asking the same question.

We came across the paperclip movement sparked by E. Jean Carroll and got inspired!

During the N**i occupation of Norway in WW11, Norwegians used paperclips as a symbol of resistance, wearing them on their lapels as a sign of solidarity and unity. Started by teachers, it was a subtle yet defiant act of resistance against occupiers and local N**i authorities. (The Paper Clip Resistance).

E. Jean Carroll has revived the movement, and we decided to join in by offering paperclip t-shirts and sweatshirts designed by Julie Ray!

Wear your paperclip with pride and in solidarity, know that you are not alone. The paperclip cannot be banned, ignored, defunded.

Clip in! See the collection: https://createprotest.com/collections/paperclip-movement

Happy 4th of July. As we celebrate our democracy’s birth, we wonder, what are we celebrating at this time we are living through?

Here in Los Angeles, the National Guard, the Marines, and ICE invaded our city without an invitation. Our streets were primarily peaceful, yet helicopters hovered and sirens blared while fear was manufactured and amplified. Our US Senator was thrown to the ground and handcuffed for asking a question at a press conference. Elected representatives in Minneapolis were assassinated and shot in their own homes. The US entered into the Iran/Israel discord. The world is in a heightened state of conflict and reacting with heavy handed force.

How do we respond, rather than react to or ignore this bombardment of occurrences? How do we play offense rather than defense and elevate the vision of democracy that includes, supports and celebrates ALL? How can we activate joy as resistance?

We’d like to focus this newsletter on efforts that celebrate the local weavers who strengthen, invigorate, and activate our communities. Here are the stories of the good work being done by Create Protest artists Florencio Zavala, Man One, and Juliette Bellocq: https://createprotest.com/blogs/create-action/democracy-in-action-in-community-july-news

What we have done so far this election season:

We've mailed out over 70,000 artist-designed postcards across the country. Thank you all for handwriting postcards encouraging fellow citizens to get out and vote!

We participated in Activate America's largest postcard party in Los Angeles and co-hosted two virtual postcard writing events with Activate America, Third Act Creatives, Third Act SoCal, and Soapbox Project.

And we created a "Citizen Activation Kit" to be sold at Why I Love Where I Live stores in Gilbert and Tucson, Arizona!

With the Presidential election just weeks away, what will you do to help get out the vote? Here are three things you can between now and November 5.

1. Go to Mobilize.us to find a local action you can participate in.

Mobilize is an online platform that transforms online audiences into real-life, people-powered movements. https://www.mobilize.us/

2. Stand up for abortion rights

Voters in 10 states will get to weigh in on abortion rights this November. Support these initiatives by donating to the Abortion Ballot Measure Fund. Every time abortion has been on the ballot since Dobbs, abortion has won! https://secure.actblue.com/donate/abmf

3. Talk to 5 friends/family

One of the most effective things that you can do is talk to your friends and family about voting. Red Wine and Blue has some tips on how to do this! https://redwine.blue/rallyyoursquad/

Julie with Maya Harris ( ) at an event at tonight! Maya has been canvassing around the country, speaking with women about reproductive rights and other issues important to them, and getting out the vote. Let’s vote Maya’s sister into office on Nov 5!
