You see some weird stuff when you take apart old lights. This is off a 1930s chandelier a customer brought for work. Looks like a omeone replaced the 6” of wire to the socket but didn’t have a screwdriver to connect to the terminals. So they used the 3/4” remnant of the old wire already attached to the screws and wire nuts. Guess it saved them the cost of a screwdriver?

A feather in my cap project came across the bench yesterday—an authentic Louis Comfort Tiffany lamp! Made by Tiffany Studios, which was their luxury home furnishings store on 5th Avenue in New York. This lamp stopped working for no apparent reason so customer entrusted this to me to cure its ills. After opening it we were horrified to discover the last reworked used blue electrical tape to joint the connections— a sign of sloppy workmanship. We soldered all the connections together and tinned the wires for the socket screws for rock solid connections. In the process we cleaned the original socket keys and polished the interiors as well as inspecting the old original (and totally overkill!) turn switch in the base. We also found a patent date on the switch: September 1912. We’ve always heard that Tiffany Studios built their pieces with meticulous craftsmanship and seeing how this was made, that’s absolutely correct. Honored that the owner trusted this to us. Our only regret is not seeing the glass shade in person.

Three amazing French Deco floor lamps! These are actually reproduction/interpretations of 1920s pieces by celebrated designers Paul Kiss and Edgar Brandt. While reproductions aren’t our normal offerings it comes from the need remanufacture parts that are missing or beyond repair. We’ve have a blacksmith who will forge each piece by hand on his anvil. Once we sort out finding appropriate glass or custom alabaster shades these will be made to order pieces.
