Traditionally carved from s***m whale teeth and braided coconut fiber, the ‘ula nifo was reserved exclusively for high-ranking chiefs (Ali‘i) and sacred village maidens (Taupou) during pivotal gatherings and ceremonial dances (Taualuga). Because stranded whales were rare gifts from the sea, each tooth carried immense sacred prestige and ancestral protection.
