New French Republic - Colonel Jean-Claude Gaultier
Originally enlisting in the Legion as an alternative to a life in prison, Jean-Claude Gaultier never expected to rise far in the ranks, and found himself routinely conflicting with his superior officers over matters of discipline. On the verge of a court martial and ex*****on, his life made a dramatic turnaround when, during deployment in French Indochina, he developed an interest in the martial arts. Granted a new purpose in life, he fully committed to excelling in athletics, combining Western and Eastern forms into a unique style through which he eventually rose to earn the prestigious title of the French Army Savate Champion. The discipline learned in his training for the sport translated easily into his military career, and soon turned the Belgian dropout into one of the finest Legionnaires of the 3rd Regiment, a master of close-quarters combat and a cunning strategist who could think on his feet.
When the New French Republic arose from the sudden and violent uprising in Paris, the Legion was not spared by the purges and scrutiny of the Commune. Though previously his criminal record had restricted his opportunities for command, the Internationale chose to ignore his foreign record, appointing him to colonelcy and putting him in command of the famed Lionhearts. Eager to prove himself worthy of the opportunity, Colonel Gaultier quickly set out to earn the trust of his fellow legionnaires and the new regime with a tenacious, hands-on approach to leadership. Favoring rapid, precise attacks that maximized his smaller forces against a larger and more well-equipped foe, his monowheel became a familiar and dreaded sight to Pact forces in the African Theater.
Confirmed as dead numerous times by enemies desperate to be free from the Legion's dogged and harassing strikes on their flanks, losing an arm in Egypt was the closest they came to stopping the tenacious Colonel. This serious injury proved to be nothing more than a temporary setback, however, and with the technik replacement for his lost limb, Jean-Claude quickly found a new way to apply his mastery of fist and foot to the field of battle...
