Today I want to honor Vincent Gabriel โVinneyโ Danz. He was a New Yorker through and through. A husband, a father of three young daughters, a United States Marine veteran, a Coast Guard reservist, and a proud officer with the NYPD Emergency Service Unit. He embodied service in every sense of the word.
On September 11th, 2001, Vinney was off-duty when the attacks began. He didnโt hesitate. He rushed into Lower Manhattan to join his team in the rescue efforts. Inside the North Tower, he helped lead evacuations and assisted those trapped. When the tower came down, Vinney was still inside, doing what he had always done, putting others first.
He was a man of humility who never sought recognition, but lived to help others, whether in uniform or at home with his family. He left behind his wife Angela and their three daughters, who remember him as a loving and devoted father.
Vinney represents the countless first responders who didnโt make it home that day. To honor him is to honor all the quiet heroes of 9/11. The men and women who ran toward danger so others could live. His legacy is not only in the uniforms he wore, but in the love, sacrifice, and selflessness he showed until his last breath.
Never forgotten.
