Cleaning up, shifting, rearranging - at the yards. The bee house isn’t finished, but finished enough that they won’t mind. # HoneyBees

A few pictures from yesterday’s inspection of mom/dad’s porch hive. A few beeUtiful frames of honey and a couple that were capped only on one side. This is a truly unique one!

Like I was saying just last night

A groundbreaking study examining the relationship between beekeeping and longevity has revealed that apiarists (beekeepers) may possess a distinct biological advantage that allows them to age more slowly than the general population. Published in the journal PMC, the research focused on telomeres—the protective caps at the ends of chromosomes that serve as a crucial indicator of cellular aging. Scientists discovered that beekeepers had significantly longer telomeres than non-beekeepers of the same age. Because telomeres naturally shorten as cells replicate and degrade over time, the maintenance of greater telomeres length among beekeepers provides direct, molecular evidence of a delayed biological clock and a reduced rate of cellular senescence (senescent cells are often called “zombie cells” because they refuse to die despite being heavily damaged, and they can “infect” surrounding healthy cells with dysfunction).

Researchers attribute this anti-aging phenomenon primarily to the regular, long-term consumption and handling of nutrient-dense bee products. The study demonstrated that both the duration of years spent consuming these products and the daily frequency of their intake directly correlated with longer telomeres. Hive elements such as raw honey, propolis, and royal jelly are densely packed with potent antioxidants and bioactive compounds that actively combat oxidative stress and promote cellular repair. Additionally, consistent exposure to the anti-inflammatory properties of bee venom—combined with the outdoor physical activity and mindfulness required to keep a colony calm—creates a unique environmental synergy that effectively acts as a natural defense against the traditional markers of aging.

A little road trip to Powhatan, VA yesterday. Thank you for having us Huguenot Beekeepers!
Paul and I enjoyed sharing about the AZ style hives and how we use apitherapy as part of our lifestyle. BVT, propolis, pollen, wax & all the bee products.

🐝🌳 Paul didn’t just pick up a piece of tree… he picked up a honey bee colony.

Honey bees are cavity nesters. In nature, they often choose trees as their homes, finding protection inside the wood and creating their comb within the hollow cavity.
Sooo neat to see and observe!

The bee boxes that are commonly seen are actually a convenience for beekeepers. 🐝📦

Bees don’t need a Langstroth hive box to thrive. Given the right conditions and suitable dimensions, they can make a home in all kinds of cavities including trees, walls, chimneys, and other structures.

This colony happened to choose a tree.🌳

And thanks to Mr. Tree Cutter who discovered them and Paul who carefully rescued the section containing their colony, these bees have another chance to keep buzzing. 💛🐝
