Do you ever wonder if your child with nonverbal autism understands what’s going on around them?

For years, we’ve talked to Matty and CJ without knowing how much they were taking in. So often there was no response unless we prompted them, and we were left wondering what they understood and what they didn’t.

But today… Matty showed us. ❤️

He independently spelled out Hailey’s birthday on his device.

He knew today was a special day.
He knew it was his sister’s birthday.
And he found a way to let us know all on his own.

Matty learning to spell has been a complete game changer in our house. It’s opening up a whole new way for him to show us what he knows, what he understands, and what he wants to say.

And what better day to show us than his sister’s 24th birthday? 🥹

Happy 24th Birthday Hailey!

We’re all so lucky to have you and don’t know what we would do without you! ❤️

We love you more than you’ll ever know. 🎂❤️

🧩 First day of school with autism hits different…

They are excited about today while all I can do is worry about their future…

Because it’s another year closer to a future (adulthood) that we know nothing about…

They LOVE school.
They LOVE routines.
Their smiles …pure happiness. ❤️

And while im watching them
in the back of my mind, I’m thinking about the future.

Where will they live?
What level of care will they need?
Who will understand them?
Who will be there for them?

They’re nonverbal.
They can’t tell me what happened at school today…
let alone tell me what they want their future to look like.

I don’t care who you are.
That is a kind of fear you never fully get used to.

So today, they’re celebrating another first day…

And I’m celebrating them…
while quietly grieving the future I once thought i could see.

I don’t know what their future holds.

I just pray it holds people who love them as much as we do.❤️

How to get your 9yr old autistic kid to pay attention during cake….

Set his paw patrol on fire 🔥

Just kidding…

Happy 9th Birthday to my wild and happy boy , CJ.

My last baby is NINE. And somehow, nine years have gone by so fast…

If you know CJ, you know CJ is CHAOS. 😂 He does things his own way, keeps us on our toes, and is the happiest boy you will ever meet.

Tonight was the most perfect example. We could NOT get this kid’s attention… until his Paw Patrol birthday cake caught on fire. 🔥😂 Suddenly, we had his full attention!

Life with CJ may not always look the way we imagined, but I wouldn’t change a single thing about the boy who has taught us to laugh through the chaos, celebrate the little moments, and see the world differently.

Happy 9th birthday, CJ. ❤️
My last baby. My wild child. My chaos. My joy.

I love you more than you’ll ever know. 🎂💙

When you have TWO nonverbal autistic boys who elope… you already know one of them is going to try something. 😂”

“Today, it was CJ.”

“He was determined to get those socks OFF.”

“And no… I wasn’t making him keep them on because ‘socks are the rule.’ 😂”

“I was trying to keep him from becoming faster than me.”

“Because once those bare feet hit the floor…”

“HE CAN RUN.”

“And mama is NOT winning that race. 😭”

🧩 Whenever I hear voices coming from Matty’s IPad… I’m like “Oh no who did he call now”

But tonight Matty knew it was for him…

His big sister moved out but she always makes sure to FaceTime Matty to say goodnight 🥹

When Matty sees her name pop up he answers immediately ❤️

THINGS MY GROWN DAUGHTER DOES THAT MAKES ME WANT TO SMACK HER 😂

And don’t worry we are just joking around 😂

If you’re new here, let me give you a little backstory…

I got pregnant at 16 and had my first daughter young. Then I had my second daughter by the time I was 20.

I raised my girls, watched them grow up, Grew up with them, and eventually started all over again…

So here I am now… raising my two little boys, who happen to be autistic, while my first set of babies are now grown adults.

And apparently, one of the perks of raising your children into adulthood is that they get to throw every life choice you’ve ever made directly back in your face. 😂😭

On the other hand …They get to watch you make all the mistakes and then make the right decisions with their life!

Welcome to motherhood. ❤️
