We recently completed a full drainage and sod installation for a homeowner in the Atlanta metro area who was dealing with constant water issues in their backyard.
The problem:
Water flowing in from a neighboring property
Downspouts dumping directly into the yard
Thin, struggling 419 Bermuda
Heavy moss growth due to excess moisture
Our solution:
Built a strategic mound to slow incoming water
Installed 200 ft of corrugated drainage
Buried 4 downspouts to move water away from the home
Replaced 6 pallets of failing sod
Upgraded to TifTuf Bermuda for better shade tolerance and durability
Reduced watering times from 30 mins every other morning to 10 mins at 5am
This wasn’t just a sod job — this was a full system designed to fix the root problem.
Our explanation: Sod thrives under adequate conditions. When it struggles it is because of a number of factors as sod is very resilient. We noticed the downspouts right away, the moss next. We knew this was because of fast moving water and shade. We decided to address all concerns and instead of replacing the entire yard, opted for a similar shade tolerant strain in Bermuda Tif Tuf.
