Local author, Cara Reinard, just stopped by to restock Novel Breads with her very gripping psychological thrillers. The Clinic is new to us and she describes the story as Grey’s Anatomy set in a Pittsburgh IVF Clinic. Cara’s stories are so compelling that you can’t put them down until you find out what happens at the end. Stop in to get one of her novels or pick from the variety of local authors we carry in the store. We’re fortunate to have so much amazing, local talent to share with all of you!

It’s a Fruit Bowl! This week, I seem to be inspired by nature’s candy when it comes to sourdough bread options at the Novel Breads’ store and the Grove City( Grove City Market in the Park)and Beaver Farmers Markets (Beaver County Farmers Markets )There will be Mango Crumble made with the buttery soft, champagne mangoes and mango nectar added to an oat/wheat dough; Roasted Orange Martini Bread made with in-house candied orange, orange olive oil and a pinch of pepper in a whole wheat bread and Orbisculate Bread with yuzu puree dancing with orange mint in a Kamut flour bread. Of course there are plenty of savory options like the Mushroom & Chives Bread, Classic Italian and Whole Grain Sourdough, Rowdy Rye alongside the Caramelized Onion and Aged Cheddar option known as Bountiful Blonde. Finishing out the menu will be the crowd favorites, English Muffins and French Toast Bread. Everything Sourdough All The Time. Find these tasty bites at all locations!

I have something new for all of you this week…Mashed Potato Focaccia whose pictures tell the story in reverse. Last week, one of my fellow Grove City vendors shared his bread book with me (the book featured at the end), and as I was pouring through its pages, I discovered Mashed Potato Focaccia and knew I was going to make it soon. Well, soon is here, and I made my own sourdough version of this bread into these very moist bites from homemade mashed potatoes with fresh garlic and chives from our garden. This bread is so addictive and is really yummy eaten as is or dipped in a little olive oil. You can find the new creations at the store and the Grove City and Beaver Farmers Markets (while supplies last).

The PGH BOOK CRAWL of 2026 is one of the best events we were honored to be part of this year!!!!We want to thank all of you who participated in this unique experience! Your excitement was contagious and your openness and kindness were appreciated! We hope you will continue to visit us throughout the year, finding new reads and new bites at our store. We also wanted to thank our fellow bookstores who participated in the crawl, helping to make it so fun and exciting! We look forward to checking out your stores throughout the year. Last but certainly not least, we want to give a huge shoutout to Blythe Books and Fine Gifts who so beautifully coordinated this spectacular event and PITTSBURGH’S FIRST ROMANCE BOOKSTORE 🩷, ambassadors and book loving volunteers. Your hard work is noted and greatly appreciated. We look forward to the book crawl in 2027. For now, we have to get back in the kitchen and bake more literary bread and order more books. Ya’ll bought us out and we love ya for it !!!

Good Morning, All! There are 3 containers of our very special, handmade mascarpone spread left for the lucky ones to come get it. This whipped, creamy spread is so delicious smeared over English Muffins or your favorite loaves. We have Ginger Oat and Ethiopian Milk & Honey Bread that pair so well. Also, fresh eggs from our happy sourdough lovin’ chickens will be available today only. Lots of loaves and more in the store. Also, unfortunately we won’t be able to come see our lovely Beaver customers at the market tomorrow as our loaves are needed in the store for the wonderful PGH BOOK CRAWL. If you’re feeling adventurous, Beaver fans, pop over to the store after you visit the market tomorrow. We’re open 10-2 today and tomorrow.

New varieties of literary breads this week! We have Ricotta Blossom inspired by Blessed Are The Cheesemakers; Ethiopian Milk & Honey Bread inspired by the children’s book,The Best Beekeeper of Lalibela and a personal favorite, the Muffaletta Sandwich Bread inspired by both the iconic New Orleans sandwich and the food memoir, Gumbo Tales: Finding My Place at the New Orleans Table. We’ll have these and more at the store and both farmers markets this week.

Finally getting a chance to report on how the first day of the PGH BOOK CRAWL went on Saturday. It was INCREDIBLE!!! We were busy nonstop with excited customers looking for books and bread! One of the most frequent comments was that people loved the crawl, because it acquainted them with local gems like our little store. I gathered that everyone thrived on Saturday including our guest authors (yay!) and other Mars businesses (also yay!). The event is ongoing this week. I’m working towards the next sourdough creations for when we open back up on Thursday!
