The book I'd like to highlight this week is:

The River Is Waiting by Wally Lamb.

WOW! This was at times hard to read and hard to put down. Some very difficult topics were handled in this book. I felt the author did a fine job of tackling these and giving us closure at the end. Was it a satisfying ending? Not really, but one that makes you think. If you've read it, what do you think???

Book of the week:

It's Not Her by Mary Kubica.

I have not read anything by this author before, and I was pleasantly surprised. If you like suspense, you will not be disappointed. There are many twists and turns to keep you guessing.

Nope, I haven't posted in a very long while, but I thought I would try something new. Book of the week. Here is a book I read a while ago. I never thought I would like it, but I ended up loving it. I have found that I really like this author. Sometimes, you just need to open yourself up a bit and try new things.

Kirsten Raymonde will never forget the night Arthur Leander, the famous Hollywood actor, had a heart attack on stage during a production of King Lear. That was the night when a devastating flu pandemic arrived in the city, and within weeks, civilization as we know it came to an end.

Twenty years later, Kirsten moves between the settlements of the altered world with a small troupe of actors and musicians. They call themselves The Traveling Symphony, and they have dedicated themselves to keeping the remnants of art and humanity alive. “My dad, Dan Pelzer, died July 1 at the age of 92, leaving me the list of the thousands of books he read since 1962. ALL of his books were Columbus Metropolitan Library books.

Nobody loved the library more than Dan. When we were little, he took us to the downtown library every Saturday morning and enrolled us in every summer reading program. He was a regular at the Livingston and then Whitehall branches until he could no longer read. I'm sure he would be among your highest circulation and longest term borrowers.

We thought about printing the list to distribute at his funeral, but it was too long.

In his obituary, we suggested that people read ‘a real page turner’ in lieu of flowers.”
