First off, let me introduce myself! My name is Jenny and I am from Jacksonville, FL. My husband is former military and one of the places we were lucky enough to live was Hawaii! I collected a TON of sea glass from the beaches there and began making myself and family jewelry with it! It caught on like wildfire and here we are! I create sea glass jewelry, hand stamped metal jewelry, sea glass/beach

I refuse to ONLY post the highlights of my journey back to the bench.
I was SO frustrated on day 2 & it almost led to me spending $500 on new equipment that Iā€™ve never used beforešŸ˜³ because I was convinced the problem wasnā€™t me.

Donā€™t worry. I checked myself šŸ˜‚ & put the phone down before I could make an angry impulse buy.

I had to remind myself that I have used my method of a small butane torch VERY successfully for thousands of pieces and that maybe my first day back was a little bit of ā€œbeginnersā€ luck.

Silversmithing is something that takes TONS of practice, and I havenā€™t even held a torch in almost 6 YEARS. So I took a beat & quit for the day and have taken the weekend to regroup and get ready to try again on Monday.

Iā€™m just SO eager to get back to working with my hands and creating. Something I previously believed would NEVER happen again.

Sorry this isnā€™t nearly as lighthearted & happy as my other posts, but I want to be able to look back at EVERY part of this journey and be proud that I pushed through the bad daysšŸ«¶šŸ¼

I MADE A RING!!!šŸ„¹

I decided to just dive headfirst back into trying to regain my silversmithing skills and it went so much better than I couldā€™ve imagined!

Five years ago I couldā€™ve made this ring in less than 30 minutes. It took me almost 5 hours today, but that was with having to completely relearn almost step-by-step. I am so freaking proud and also very annoyed that I didnā€™t have any vinegar to make my nontoxic pickling solution to take the fire scale off of itšŸ˜’šŸ˜’šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Just had to share this exciting update because it happened so much sooner than I thought it would!! šŸ«¶šŸ¼šŸ«¶šŸ¼šŸ«¶šŸ¼

(There is a Seaglass ring on the bench in one of the photos or videos. That is the one that I wear on my hand and I had taken it off to study it while I was trying to make the simple ring band. Not even close to being at the point where I can make a Seaglass ring yet, but we will get there!!!)

SALTED BY JEN IS RE-OPENING?! šŸ„¹

Hey salted famšŸ„° I know. Itā€™s been a LONG time.
Itā€™s been over 5 years since my battle with a brain tumor, and Iā€™m finally ready to REALLY give this a go.

In case you missed it, I lost a large portion of my vision & developed a tremor in my hand after undergoing brain surgery to remove a large brain tumor. Those 2 things left me unable to do the delicate work needed to create your custom pieces. I was absolutely devastated. To lose the business I had put my entire life into was more than I could handle.

But Iā€™m doing amazing these days and while I still have a small tremor in my hand, I have learned to adapt to my new limited vision and know my triggers for my tremor, so Iā€™m usually able to keep it at bay.

I will have to relearn pretty much every part of this business, but Iā€™m ready.

The studio is back up and ready so I thought Iā€™d share it here as the first official post documenting the salted by Jen comeback!

I have no re-opening date, but Iā€™ll be documenting my re-learning process & all the highs & lows along the way! šŸ«¶šŸ¼šŸ«¶šŸ¼

Hiiiiiii!!!
If you follow me on my other accounts, you already know this information. But I have recently started to slowly make jewelry again now that we have gotten my vision to a place where I can actually see up close!!
This cute little dainty thing on my septum is one of the first things Iā€™ve made, and Iā€™m obsessed with it !
I have to relearn A LOT of things, and that will get frustrating, but this brain of mine did hold onto some things, and Iā€™m so excited to get back at it!
I have absolutely no idea what kind of timeframe Iā€™m looking at for possibly re-opening the shop, but I am back at my bench for the first time in two years and itā€™s really exciting šŸ˜­šŸ˜­
To those who have stuck around, I love you and Iā€™m so thankful for you!!
