Happy birthday to the woman behind so much of what you see here!

From riding along on Bay Area deliveries, to helping us create content, to encouraging me through long days. Christine has been a huge part of the growth of Cali Hardwoods.

The last year has been one of the biggest in our lives. We got married, celebrated 19,000 of you joining this community, and continue building something we're incredibly proud of together.

Thank you for believing in this dream, for putting up with the endless wood piles, and for always being willing to jump in wherever you're needed.

Another Hare i am carving! 🐇🐰

I decided to name her «Alice». Her two siblings will also get names starting with A.

I am realising that the walnut board i was going to attach them to lacks thickness compared to the Hares so i ordered a few new figured boards from Cali Hardwoods & Supplies

The boards will be shipped from US to Norway which takes some time, But that gives me the time i need to plan how i want the design of the finished board to be.

One of the questions we get asked most is:

"What's your board foot price on walnut?"

The honest answer is... there isn't one.

Board feet are how hardwood lumber is measured, but they're only part of the equation. Once you get into exceptional pieces, you're no longer comparing commodity lumber—you're comparing rarity.

A standard Claro Walnut board, turning blank, or forearm blank can be produced from many logs. An exceptional English Walnut crotch-feather board comes from one very specific part of the tree, and most logs will never produce one worth saving.

That's why board feet are just the starting point.

Figure. Color. Yield. Defects. Drying. Demand.

Those are the factors that determine why one piece of walnut might sell for around $8 while another is worth hundreds.

Every board tells a different story—and that's what makes hardwood so fascinating.

It's always rewarding to see what our customers create after a piece of wood leaves our shop. Kevin documented every step of turning this figured Bastogne walnut blank into the bowl you see here, and the transformation is incredible.

Every log has a different story hidden inside it. Figure, color, grain, and natural character make each project completely unique—and that's one of the reasons we love working with walnut.
