📰THE SCOOP & FINAL THOUGHTS💭
We had 3 parts this lol. I ran into Alex outside of the building while he was on a walk with his daughter-for those following on the stories, he was 100% the guy we saw win the latte art contest at Misfit a few winters ago.🏆

Okay so Port2050 opened on May 8th, but Alex started journey back in Columbia in 2015 before Venezuela, Dubai, and now MN. He learned firsthand from a pal who used to come to a bar he served at. Fast forward a few years he’s in courses, labs, & Head of Quality in Roots Cafe over in UAE.🌎

Alex was also a part of Sweet Ren Academy over at Dogwood where they taught everything from roasting to business law.🎓

Port2050 is for sure a destination shop that is coffee forward. The experience I had consisted of Zach & Alex walking me through each of the coffee’s origins, giving credit to the farmers and produces, & gave me a crash course the differences between washed, honey, & natural processes (they even had a bean for a visual).🧑🏻‍🏫

Go for their pourovers, which mind you they are $10 which seems INSANE, but when you breakdown the cost per bag you’re getting a solid deal for their limited & premium selection👌🏼

*I’ve been doing my best to listen to you on the stories, for those who are more mindful with spending, go with the testing kit, it’s 2 for $15*🧠

Fun Fact: Port2050 comes from Alex’s hometown, Puerto Cabello, Venezuela- “Port” is for the coastal city and the 2050 is actually the zipcode! Their logo is inspired by the monument along El Malecon!🇻🇪

He’s spent countless years gaining a strong well-rounded experiences, selling out at markets, and opened 2050 with $500 back in July, gotta respect the grind. Go support them👍🏼

📰THE SCOOP🗞️
OKAY so imagine this: A bright, warm & cozy space with huge windows bringing in tons of natural sunlight. There’s a long booth along the windows, plenty of tables & lounge chairs, plants throughout & warm wood tones contrasting with the white brick and black accents.☀️🌿

I had the pleasure of speaking with Sam, Unwind’s owner. He’s from Guangdong, China, he moved to Seattle before attending the U of M for finance & later earned his Master’s in Marketing in Virginia. He’s a coffee lover, Sam saved up to make Unwind happen & took the leap into opening his first shop.☕️

For my coffee nerds out here, they’re currently serving coffee roasted by SEY in Brooklyn, with beans from Peru & Ecuador. They also offer off-menu pour overs. He is constantly exploring coffee too—they recently sampled Onyx coffees, including a Gesha.🧐

Fun Fact: The bird in Unwind’s branding represents being able to land, hang out & preen for awhile—the same feeling Sam wants people to have here. No pressure to move on, just… Unwind.🐦

Words of Wisdom from Sam: Spend a lot of time thinking & prepping before making a decision-things can go wrong expect the worst & hope for the best!🧠

🤔FINAL THOUGHTS💭
Okay so this was a 2 part visit. Sunday was PACKED & he was training a staff member so we came back for chat on the Tuesday. I liked his story a lot, he is a guy that loves coffee & went all in on something he cares about. With no prior experience he put in a little extra in their time, equipment, & staff, really understanding the risk it of it all. The space is a cozy one to work at, coffee was solid, & the conversation was great. Go support them!👍🏼

2 weeks ago we hosted our first ever coffee rave w/ Ninth Street !⚽️

We love coffee & EDM and are doing our best to support both local scenes.🙌🏼

We’re still new to this, but we’re doing our best to make sure everyone has a good time whether it’s their first show or their 100th.🎉

Thank you so much to everyone who showed up that day. It means the absolute world to us. You remind us that there are people out there who have our back while we spend countless hours behind the scenes making these things happen. On the tough days, you’re the ones who keep us going.

Today’s spotlight goes to Sam from Passion Project Coffee !🫘

Sam & I have been sharing recommendations with each other for almost 5 years now! She’s always been very passionate (woah) about coffee from how it’s made, the different ingredients added to the drinks, & the environment it’s served in. She saved up & started up her own brand-roasting her own beans, pulling her own shots, & as of recently started selling pastries as well!☕️🤔💭
