Watermelon with seeds.....

WITH SEEDS.

Because watermelon should ALWAYS have seeds. 😂🍉

We grew THREE heirloom varieties this year and I think we can officially say… we finally perfected it!!🙌🌱 (Anyone remember the teeeeeny tiny watermelons we grew the past few years??? 😆 )

These are .....sweet, juicy, old-school, garden-grown perfection. None of that suspicious seedless nonsense over here. 😂

Give me the seeds. Give me the mess. Give me REAL watermelon. 🍉

These are already almost gone, so next year we're doing it AGAIN — just on a little larger scale so we actually have more to share! 🍉🍉🍉🍉

There is just something about growing the old varieties the old-fashioned way that makes my heart happy. 🧡🌱

Next summer, Rebel Farms heirloom watermelons WILL be available!

This is EXACTLY what the Chaos Garden is about. 💙🌿

Most people would look at this little blue flower and think… w**d. Pull it. Spray it. Get rid of it.

But wait… because this little plant is actually pretty fascinating.

This is Asiatic dayflower (Commelina communis), named “dayflower” because each of those gorgeous electric-blue blooms lasts for roughly ONE DAY. 💙

And yep… it’s edible!

The young leaves, tender shoots and flowers have traditionally been eaten, particularly in parts of Asia. The tender greens can be cooked much like other leafy greens, and the beautiful blue flowers can be used as an edible garnish. It also has a history of use in traditional medicine, and those brilliant blue petals have even been used to make pigment.

All of that from something growing along the edge of the garden that most people would call a useless w**d. 😂

But apparently our little friend here already knew it was worth keeping.

I originally thought… bee? Wasp? 🐝 Nope — it appears to be a hoverfly!

And these little guys are AWESOME to have around. They dress up like bees and wasps as a defense mechanism, but hoverflies don’t have stingers and don’t sting people.

The adults feed on nectar and pollen and help pollinate the garden. Even cooler, the larvae of many hoverfly species eat aphids and other soft-bodied pests.

Basically… free pest control. 😂🌿

So think about what’s happening in this one little picture:

🌿 The “w**d” can feed us.
🌼 Its flowers are feeding pollinators.
🐝 The hoverfly is helping pollinate the garden.
🐛 Its babies can help control garden pests.
🌎 And together they're part of a tiny ecosystem happening right under our noses.

Nobody planted it. Nobody planned it. Everybody has a job.

THAT is the Chaos Garden. 🌿💙

It’s about learning what grows around us and questioning the idea that everything we didn’t intentionally plant is somehow useless.

Sometimes you just have to leave things alone long enough to figure out why they’re there. 😉

And maybe… pay attention before you pull that “w**d.”

🚨 Chaos Garden Wildlife Report 🚨

A local House Sparrow was caught picking on what appears to be a young American Goldfinch while an adult looked on.

Witnesses reported loud chirping, questionable manners, and absolutely no respect for personal space.

The goldfinches were not impressed. 💛 🐦😂
