Pittsburgh Music, and everyone who knew him, lost an incredibly important person this week. Andrew Bruner, aka I Am Uglyface, passed away far too soon at the age of 37.
Those that follow this page or attended local live events over the last decade have likely crossed paths with Andrew. Beyond being a rapper/singer/producer that was featured on this page 7 times over the last 3 years, he was a dependable presence in the local scene, always out supporting others.
Beatzburgh wouldn't have grown without the help of Andrew. He immediately embraced the concept of local community, and joined with our team members to sponsor collaborative meetups and live events. With how talented and creative he was, he easily could have pushed his own content continuously, but instead was all about brainstorming ways to make the Pittsburgh music community more connected. He was a positive energy always building others up.
Our message to all those music artists and fans of music out there: Appreciate each other. Build each other up. Rise the tide and watch your ship rise with it. The vast majority of these local artists aren't signed to major record labels or receiving much compensation, yet putting in countless hours of hard work to try to create music for other's enjoyment. If you like their music, let them know. Don't wait for the social proof of thousands of others to jump on board to feel like you can show support. Attend shows, spend $10 to purchase their music, and spread some love. I promise you, some of these local artists have more talent than those on pop radio, they just need people to BELIEVE in them and show support. Let's carry on the positive energy of building others up that Andrew left behind.
He also is leaving behind a ton of great music. I encourage you to check out his page I Am Uglyface, and his Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC70pNNHnqzqKcMVwAkFTnCg
Over the next month, we'll be putting up some of our favorite tracks from Andrew. If you have any suggestions, message us, we'd love to know which are your favorites. He was a master at being able to make a silly and off-beat track in one instance, and then a personal and deep track in another.
We'll remember you, Andrew, as a great team member, a talented artist, and a fantastic person to be around. Thank you.
