Jonathan the giant tortoise has lived an extraordinary life spanning nearly two centuries.

At around 192 years old, he holds the record as the oldest known living land animal. Jonathan lives on Saint Helena Island where caretakers continue to protect and monitor his health.

His remarkable lifespan fascinates scientists and reminds people how slowly some species age when protected and cared for.
