Years ago, I learned a local woman was selling off all her bisque ware and slipcasting ceramic molds. So I went over to check things out and ran into another friend who was also in the ceramics business. After chatting a bit, I decided I was interested in moving forward with my ceramics career. My husband, however, thought maybe I should think about it since I had just had a baby. I thought it wou
ld be nice to work from home, and as karama would have it, my husband decided it might be a great idea. I worked on getting my Duncan Certification and eventually hired my teacher's daughter. My mother, my BFF, and my assistant worked out of our garage in Dillworth. I started teaching neighbors, ex-coworkers, and friends of friends. We moved to the Moorhead area and at first, I taught in a small room inside our home. After a few years, and lots of remodeling, my husband built an addition to our garage where I worked out of. Upon the death of my father-in-law, my husband was able to purchase a building just perfect for not only his nursery business but for my ceramics business as well. So I began teaching painting classes again and I continue to do so in the outbuilding. I love ceramics, teaching people how to create, and making this world a little more colorful.
