Quick restock update for Elliott’s ❤️

I know some of you may have been planning to stop by today for cheesecake jars and cookies, so I wanted to let you know about a small change in plans.

With the heavy rain today and me not feeling quite up to par, I’ve decided to move today’s restock to tomorrow. Rather than making separate trips, I’ll be bringing the cheesecake jars and fresh cookies together.

I apologize to anyone who was looking forward to picking something up today. Everything will be headed to Elliott’s tomorrow, and I’ll post once the restock has been delivered.

BIG NEWS for local ordering! 🎉

TCY Local Ordering has a new home!

You can now browse our available cookies and brownies in an online storefront with photos, descriptions and pricing, place your order online, and pick it up locally at Elliott’s Pizzeria.

Our first ordering window opens Thursday, September 10 at 6 PM, with pickup Thursday, September 17 from 2 to 4 PM.

You can browse the menu now and hit “Remind Me” to be notified when ordering opens!

I also want to be transparent about shipping. After taking a closer look at the cost, we’ve decided to pause shipping for now. I know that may disappoint some of our out-of-town customers, but at the current rates, I simply don’t feel comfortable asking you to absorb that additional cost.

For now, our focus is making local ordering easier, more convenient and a better overall experience.

I’m really excited about this next step for TCY. ❤️

I miss the mini Bundt cakes. ❤️

Some of my earliest followers may remember these from our very first expo. They were one of the products I loved making, but I eventually had to step away from them.

Because I choose to keep our cakes and breads preservative-free, they don’t have the extended shelf life of major commercial brands. That made them a difficult fit for the retail side of the business.

But direct ordering? Maybe that’s a different story.

And yes, if you noticed the label, you’re seeing a little TCY history. 😂 Over eight years, we’ve gone through a few name changes while figuring out exactly who we were and where we wanted the business to go.

Maybe it’s time to revisit a few things from the early days.

When I first started as a home baker, I belonged to a Kentucky Home Bakers group that became much more than a place to share pictures of what we made.

We talked about the challenges of running a business from home. We asked questions, shared information, encouraged each other and learned together. Most importantly, we understood each other because we were operating in the same state, under the same rules and often dealing with many of the same challenges.

There are plenty of baking groups out there, and some of them are wonderful. But I've realized there's a difference between belonging to a group of people who do what you do and having a community of peers.

A peer community isn't just about showing what you made today.

It's being able to say business is slow and having someone understand what that actually means. It's talking about pricing, regulations, difficult decisions, markets that didn't go as planned, customers, growth, and sometimes wondering whether you want to keep doing this at all.

Over the years, many of the people from that original group moved on. Some stopped baking, some changed direction, and others grew into brick-and-mortar businesses. Eventually, the group itself closed.

I didn't realize how much I missed it until recently.

I miss the camaraderie. I miss having conversations with other Kentucky bakers and small food businesses who understand this particular world because they're living in it too.

Sometimes you don't need another networking group.

Sometimes you just need peers.

And I have a feeling I'm probably not the only one who misses that.

Good morning! ☀️

A little change in plans for this week’s restock.

I had originally hoped to have our cheesecake jars back in the case on Wednesday, but they’ll be arriving Thursday instead.

One of the reasons is pretty simple. I make the pudding myself, and pudding needs time. I can’t make the base one day, throw everything together and expect it to taste the way I want it to. Giving it time to chill, develop and come together makes a difference in the finished dessert.

So today I’m heading to the store, then back to the kitchen to get the bases started for:

🍓 Strawberry Pudding
🍪 Cookie Butter Pudding

Both will be back in the case Thursday.

And apparently Mother Nature has decided to cooperate a little. We’re looking at more manageable temperatures in the 80s, and I’m already eyeing those 70-degree days coming later this month. THAT is my kind of baking weather. 😂

One last completely unrelated Tuesday morning thought:

It costs absolutely nothing to be kind, but being unkind can cost more than we realize.

Send somebody an encouraging message this morning. Compliment somebody. Tell them you appreciate them. Give someone a reason to start their day feeling a little better.

No occasion required. Just because you can. ❤️
