What a busy few weeks it has been! Today, I’m catching my breath a little while I look over all the amazing things I’ve found for fall reset at Pine Street Mercantile and for the upcoming Found Cottage Mercantile Market. All the yummy textures, fall colors, warm brass, fun taxidermy, wool blankets, lovely rugs. Ahhhh … when it comes to decorating, it’s truly my favorite season!

A couple weeks ago, one of our customers told us about her coworker, a young lady that dresses daily in vintage fashion. She finally brought her in yesterday and we were mesmerized! From her super cute vintage hat, her elegant rolled hair, gorgeous dress and accessories, to her smart pumps, Jennie looked like she walked in straight from the 1940’s! We had a wonderful conversation about how she was inspired by a dress nailed to a wall in a vintage store in Northern Michigan. The story told was that the dress was worn by champion swimmer and actress Esther Williams. Jennie went home and did all kinds of research on Esther Williams and watched all her movies / aqua musicals and even though the story about the dress was not actually true, Jennie discovered a love and passion for the 1940’s lifestyle and fashion. We didn’t find out how many 1940’s dresses she has in her closet, but we did learn that she has about 3 dozen pairs of vintage shoes and at least that many hats so far. Her home is even done in 1940’s style! Here in these photos, you’ll see the hats she found in the boutique at Treasure Hunt Vintage & Antiques yesterday. Now, I’m off to find some Esther Williams movies to watch!

Did you get an invite and you're wondering, "What is Mockingbird Vintage"? Well, my vintage business is growing and I thought it was time to do some rebranding. And honestly, trying to get back to the root of why I started my own business in the first place. Many of you know that we lost our grandson in a tragic accident in 2016. Elijah was the sweetest little boy that loved trains, birds, and all of his family. When he was out in nature, he would make the sounds of the hawks and other birds and was just mesmerized by them - thus the name "Mockingbird". Elijah was truly the biggest blessing in our lives and he brought joy to EVERYONE that knew him. I want to carry on this legacy and help bring a little joy to everyone that comes my way, whether it's in person or through social media. Stay tuned and feel free to invite your friends. I'm looking forward to continuing on this journey together!
