The City of Nampa is thrilled to announce we have been awarded a $23 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation through the “Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Grant Program.”

The grant, which is the largest transportation grant the city has ever received and requires no matching funds from the city, will fund improvements along the Northside Corridor from Northside Boulevard and 4th Street North, extending 1.5 miles south to the intersection of 12th Avenue South and 7th Street South.
Improvements include new pavement along the corridor, new sidewalks and curb ramps along most of the corridor, widening the bridge over Indian Creek at North Broadmore Way, adding traffic signals at Northside Boulevard and 4th Street North, and installing a new traffic signal at the 7th Street South and 7th Avenue South intersection.

“We are thrilled to have secured nearly $23 million in funding—the largest transportation grant in our city's history and the largest BUILD award in Idaho this year,” shared the City of Nampa’s Director of Transportation, Crystal Craig. “This significant investment will not only enhance safety for our motorists but also ensure that vulnerable users benefit from essential ADA and sidewalk improvements. Additionally, we are excited to introduce smarter technologies in our historic neighborhoods, furthering our commitment to improving movement in and through Nampa. Together, we are building a safer, more accessible, and efficient transportation network for all residents. This grant is a monumental achievement for our city, and it reflects our commitment to creating safer and more efficient roadways for our residents.”

The first of three phases could begin as early as FY 2027, with construction starting on the signal at Northside Boulevard and 4th Street North (see attached rendering), as well as a new widened bridge at North Broadmore Way which crosses Indian Creek. The graphic shows the three proposed phases. The entire project is expected to be completed by September 30, 2030. We look forward to providing the public with more information on the timeline as the construction schedule develops.

This corridor has seen 350 crashes in the past five years, including a recent tragic fatal crash at the intersection of 7th Street South and 7th Avenue South. By modernizing our infrastructure, we are taking proactive steps to reduce accidents and improve the overall efficiency of our transportation network.
