I am a non-profit organization and rely on help by good animal loving people like you. Welcome to our page where we are dedicated to saving and caring for feral felines in our community through the power of education and the practice of TNR. My name is Rusti, and I have built a little bit of kitty heaven. I am dedicated to saving as many ferals as I can and am passionate about educating others on how to combat the astronomical numbers of feral cats world wide ! I release most ferals I trap but will keep all kittens, pregnant mommas and sick or injured kits. The kits I have at my facility now are ones that never left once released or have a lower survival rate in the swamp, so I have integrated them into my existing colony. It's hard work and it's not cheap, but I do what I can with what I've got. Did you know ?? Bart actually alerted me to this beauty when she was just a few weeks old ! Bart kept walking around a huge stack of wooden pallets I had in the side yard. He'd come up to me and then walk back to the pallets. As I started to follow him asking him ' what is it boy ?', I could her faint mewing. The sun was setting so I started to panic knowing these were the sounds of a very small kidden. Bart would not leave ! Long story short it took about 4 hours and it was close to midnight when I was finally able to reach her ! She was so tiny she fit in the palm of my hand. When I brought her inside she curled up and looked just like Bambi from the cartoons. Her coloring was spot on too as she was more brownish-red in her younger days. Had Bart not been so persistent, Bambi may never have been found. I doubt she would have survived a night in this swamp.

We have had daily storms and things are wet and vibrant ! Ozzie has still made no attempt to go back outside. While, the facility has dried up a lot, we are expecting 2 more days of afternoon downpours. I suspect that we will be under water again tomorrow. Ozzie is enjoying the accommodations. Bear seems to have taken a slight liking to Ozzer too !! That's Bear on the left. 😺

One thing I have learned from posting all my videos and reels, is that so many of you pay close attention to details. Recently, somebody asked me about the water bowl in our newest enclosure area. Down here in the swamp we stay in triple digits for many months out of the year. So I keep a big bowl of water out because I have several kits that love to play in the water and stay cool. This is not a drinking source. However, if they’d like to drink from it, that’s up to them. But we have 19 freshwater stations in our facility. Several that you will see here. So please don’t think that the ugly swamp water bowl is there drinking water. It is strictly for fun. 😳😸😁

In our rainy/hurricane season, it is very common to flood. We are used to this annoying factor, but have also prepared for it as much as possible. In the first photo you can see our newest enclosure and how high we built it up. While the grounds are flooded, the enclosure itself is a full foot above ground level and has remained dry. In the second photo you can see the front of my house and my driveway that is completely submerged. Notice though, that the house is dry and sits higher as well. Out here in the swamp, houses are built up on their own little mounds just for this purpose! So immediately around the house usually stays dry ( until a hurricane comes through ) but the remaining property can get up to a foot deep ! Every morning I have to wade through all the water to get to each enclosure. Everything is wet. Fire ants, spiders and snakes all invade where they can to look for higher ground. I shovel, I spray, I clean, I fight. Every single day. I fight. Swamp life is a bit different. A swamp sanctuary is VERY different. We face challenges that others don't. I have had alligators swim right through my yard. I see Rattlers and Moccasins and now, an influx of the deadly Bufo toads. It is never ending. Grass can't be cut so everything just becomes very overgrown, sloppy and a haven for swamp critters. I stay exhausted on a normal day.... rainy days take a toll on me. I share all this with you just to educate you on what we here at the EMC face, so when you see one of our posts or reels, maybe what you see will mean more knowing what things are like behind the smiles.
