Today’s National Translation Month pick: The Rabbit Back Literature Society by Pasi Ilmari Jääskeläinen, translated from Finnish by Lola Rogers. 🇫🇮

A mysterious literary society, a disappearing author, and a town where books may not be quite what they seem. A strange, witty, wonderfully weird read for anyone who loves a little mystery with their literary fiction. ✨

📖 Let’s Talk About a Book That I Don’t Know Much More About Than You Do National Translation Month Edition.

Today’s book is A Perfect Day to Put Your Head in the Oven by Lee Chia-Ying, translated from Taiwanese by Lin King.

Here’s what I know:
    •    It started with a woman trying to write a novel...and failing.
    •    So she decides to write a memoir instead.
    •    Which forces her to relive her childhood where she discovers things are not as they seemed

This one is supposed to be charming and funny and with this title I am really looking forward to giving this one a go. It comes out January 12th so do your future self a favor and pre-order this one so we can read it together.

P.S. Today’s Translation Month pick: Jacob the Mutant by Mario Bellatin, translated from Spanish by Jacob Steinberg. 🇲🇽

Y’all Mario Bellatin is magnificent and strange and you need to google him.
Conceived of as a set of fragmentary manuscripts from an unpublished Joseph Roth novel, this one is a novella in a perpetual state of transformation — a story about a man named Jacob, an ersatz rabbi and owner of a roadside tavern. ✨

A haunting, twisty novel about an Israeli woman who moves to America, takes up hunting, and finds herself caught between predator and prey. A strange and unsettling read that asks what happens when we try to reinvent ourselves.
