Any lawyers around? Somewhere about 2013 a parody/humor blog post was done on our blog on Dubé Juggling. This week I was contacted by a law firm representing Reuters saying that it was a copyrighted image. I was not even aware of the posting of 12 years ago. This was done by our social media guy. I do not believe he had any knowledge of rights to the image. The blog was buried in our website with a text link and was rarely read. I was not even aware it was still active. They want $2500 for usage licensing. I countered $150 to settle this as a nuisance. Here is their most recent response: "Our supervising attorney would like to address an important fact regarding this matter: the image in question was used without a license or authorization. This is true even if it was used in a single blog post. Your website is considered commercial in nature. Removing the image now only confirms that it was used without a license, and while it stops the unauthorized use, the damage occurred at the time the image was originally used without permission. Your organization derived a benefit from using someone else's property without compensating the rights holder. Not paying for the use saved your organization from the costs associated with legally obtaining the image".

Between 2001 and 2004 I had the pleasure of employing Judy Chan who was an NYU student. She left Dubé Juggling to become a school teacher in the Chinatown district of Manhattan. She phoned me one day to inquire if she could bring one of her classes to our business as a field trip. Of course we were all enthused about such a thing and the photo documents the event in 2002, in my showroom, surrounded by joyful children. It is one of my favorite moments in my 50 year business venture.

Fellow Jugglers,

Back in May, I shared that Dubé Juggling would be taking last orders ahead of either closing or finding a buyer. Since then, we’ve sold inventory, cleaned house, and moved into a smaller warehouse. The future of the business is still uncertain.

The good news: we have interested buyer/partners, so there’s a real chance Dubé Juggling will continue on in a partnership structure. In the meantime, select products are still in stock (while supplies last).

I am looking through all my birthday wishes from yesterday. Almost 200 wishes as of this posting - I appreciate each and every one of them. Most of you are customers yet you treat me as a friend, like family and many of you became my personal friends. A few of you met through my company and even married. Many are renowned.
