Happy 245th birthday, Jane Austen! 🍻

In Austen's time, beer was the drink of choice, and like the rest of her family, Austen could brew her own beer. Her specialty was spruce beer, which was made with molasses for a slightly sweeter taste.

Austen was also a fan of making mead—she once lamented to her sister, "there is no honey this year. Bad news for us. We must husband our present stock of mead, and I am sorry to perceive that our twenty gallons is very nearly out. I cannot comprehend how the fourteen gallons could last so long."

Uuuugh, off to clear our Friday night calendar! If you're a fan of modern Shakespeare productions OR of Josh O'Connor from The Crown and Emma, this looks GORGEOUS.

The new adaptation—originally scheduled for the London stage last year—premieres on Friday, April 23, on PBS.

Has a book ever inspired you to make a big change in your own life? We love this Northanger Abbey quote and we’ve certainly had lots of adventures abroad! We’ve moved 9 times since getting married 13 years ago and travelled to 12 countries.

We’ve moved! And we finally have the perfect room to make a lifelong dream come true—a dedicated library with a ladder, so I can swing across the room while singing like Belle! Ahem, I mean, so I read all the serious books, of course.
