Skittles is definitely the “Bud Light” of candy, with their Trans Black Lives Matter packaging initiative. And they didn’t even stick to Pride Month. Their allegiance to the woke knows no bounds. In general, I am not a fan of boycotts. Or protests. They are pointless and accomplish nothing. Then Bud Light stepped in it and America voted with their wallets. All of a sudden we learned that our belief system does make a difference. So, do what you will. I just submit this as a public service announcement.

Did you know? The Republican Party was created from of a coalition of political forces to oppose the advance of slavery in the American west and was created in Ripon, Wisconsin, on this day in history, March 20, 1854. "The Republican Party grew out of resistance to the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854, which overrode the Missouri Compromise and allowed slavery to spread into Western territory by popular sovereignty," writes PBS American Experience in its history of political parties in the United States. Abraham Lincoln was the first Republican nominee to win a presidential election in 1860 (just six years after the party was founded!). Democrat-led pro-slavery states quickly seceded from the Union in response to the Republican victory, launching the nation into the Civil War. Republicans after the war pushed through in rapid order the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments to the US Constitution. Collectively known as the Reconstruction Amendments, they abolished slavery, provided equal protection under the law and guaranteed voting rights. The Republican Party led the fight for woman's suffrage, first in the Wyoming Territories in 1869 and then pushing through the 19th Amendment after sweeping to power in both houses of Congress in November 1918. The Republican Party later pushed through the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 in alliance with Democrat President Lyndon B. Johnson, who split with his own party to support the bill.

I am registered as a Republican because they most closely align to my political values.

Then Senator Joe Biden (MD) spoke these words when he opposed the nomination of Ted Sorenson in 1977. Sorenson was nominated by President Jimmy Carter for the post of Director of Central Intelligence, but it was later revealed that after serving in the White House, Sorenson took a box of classified documents home with him in 1964. Biden joined Republicans in opposing Sorenson’s nomination and President Carter later withdrew the nomination as it became clear that his nominee had no chance of being confirmed. It seems Biden saw the illegal taking of classified documents to be a disqualifying factor for serving in the American government.

Biden’s Department of Energy was forced to release a report at the end of December revealing what the direct positive impact would have been had Biden not cancelled the Keystone XL Pipeline project by Executive Order. According to the report, that project would have employed 59,000 people and would have generated $9.6 billion in direct economic value (salaries, material orders, etc.). Not to mention the tens, if not hundreds, of billions of dollars that US consumers would have saved as a result of lower gasoline and diesel prices. The next time you fill up, or pay more for anything than you did two years ago, you know who to thank.

Without giving you context, what do you think Kate Brown is referring to? When I first read the words, I thought, “This is a statement that I wish a state governor would be making about abortion.” But, of course, that isn’t what she is referring to. She loves abortion. She is referring to capital punishment. She just commuted the death sentences of all those currently sentenced to die in Oregon for their heinous crimes. This statement and action is dripping with hypocrisy. She would gladly see thousands of unborn babies killed every year (will even pay for it), but in her world it is wrong to enforce the sentences of the worst criminals in our state. She invokes morality, but she isn’t a moral person herself. She invokes safety, but this action actually contributes to a degradation of safety and only emboldens criminals. She invokes equity, but abortion affects her prized communities of preference more than others, and by design. The only saving grace is that she will no longer be our governor. If only her successor wasn’t going to be as bad or worse.

It is an interesting thing to see nation’s priorities played out on the global stage. The United States government just announced a prisoner swap with Russia – the US went to bat for an intersectional-bingo winning pothead athlete (Brittney Griner); Russia wanted back an illegal arms dealer (Victor Bout). In one action, each country signaled what is most important to each of them. Both in what they value, and also in what they would be willing to forgive. Is crime even criminal anymore? Do we not have standards anymore? For my money, I would like to see the arms dealer remain in prison and I think the athlete should have served our her sentence.

I’ve got questions – Why does this law have to be state-wide instead of just being for the counties that voted for it? There were only 6, by the way… If the intent is to reduce gun violence, and gun violence doesn’t go down, why isn’t there a 5 year or 10 year trigger in the law to repeal itself (please excuse the pun)? Were none of the details actually thought out or written prior to it being passed? It seems that no one knows what they are supposed to be doing as a result of this. What if the new laws, still being written, no longer have the support of the people of the state and they claim this isn’t what they thought they were passing? Will they repeal it? What if the whole ball of wax is found to be unconstitutional from the start? And, finally, if the $49 million estimated cost to administer the programs statewide deplete the funds of already unfunded law enforcement agencies to the point that it puts public safety even further at risk (which is why people are buying more guns in the first place), will the state just raise taxes to cover those additional costs, further hurting Oregonians? Or, will the state dig in its heals and demand that law enforcement do more with less, just further hurting Oregonians? Who is this law good for?

Just dropped our ballots off at the ballot collection box and am looking forward to the results tomorrow night. We definitely preferred voting in person the years we lived out of state. Mail in voting just feels underwhelming. Praying for big things in Oregon’s future!

Oregon is a gorgeous state with so many natural treasures. Each time my family and I go explore it we are reminded that God’s design is perfect and He is glorified by it. May we as people live up to the calling He has placed on us in His creation!

The Apple store in downtown Portland is surrounded by a huge wire-cage wall to keep out and rioters, and yet as a brand they were against the building of the wall along the southern border. I enjoy the hypocrisy!

It has been 20 years. This is my first opportunity to come here and pay my respects. It still gets me upset when I think about it. It is sad to see all of these names and to understand they all represent a life cut short and a family who missed out on life with those they loved. America rallied, for sure, for a year or two? But in the end, I feel like the terrorists actually won. As I look at what America has become since that day, on the whole, I think we indulge in even more of the behavior that the terrorists hated us for. I think we disparage God quite a bit, too. As a country we are really struggling in so many ways. And yet, I had wonderful conversations with people on the train, sitting at the local pizza place, with the police officers patrolling the streets around the memorial and with folks in the park. People in the heart of NYC being nice to each other. I like that, and I hope that is the lasting result of what started as the most horrific sucker punch I have ever seen thrown.

I want to applaud the US Supreme Court for their courage at looking to overturn Roe v. Wade. Simply put, the killing of unborn babies is horrific. As to this quote, becoming pregnant is a choice and a natural consequence of having s*x. I don’t think that leftists and liberals take great satisfaction in aborting babies, but I do think they require abortion to cover up the consequences of other behaviors. So, when we talk about whether or not abortion should be allowable in our country, their reaction is usually super-charged because what is really at stake for them is their promiscuity and adultery. Add to that the fact that over 900,000 unborn children are killed in America each year (which I am certain God curses us for) and that the majority of those children are of non-white ethnicity (it is well documented that Planned Parenthood was started in part to try and limit the population growth of the black community), and there isn’t much to build an argument on “for” abortion. I understand it in legitimate situations where pregnancy puts the life of a mother at risk, and I understand the emotional weight of a pregnancy resulting from r**e or in**st (though I don’t think that is an excuse to abort). Maybe a dialogue could take place around those circumstances. But, to have abortion on demand for “Oops!” isn’t acceptable. Not only is this quote irresponsible, but it casts minority communities in a horrible light.
