Who’s been to the Original Nathan’s Famous in Coney Island? It all started right here in 1916 when Nathan and Ida Handwerker opened their little hot dog stand, and more than 100 years later, it’s still a Brooklyn icon. From the famous hot dogs to those crinkle-cut fries and onion rings, Nathan’s is part of Coney Island history. I recreated the Original Nathan’s Famous in miniature to help preserve that history forever and always. A few copies are available now. Have you been to Nathan’s? What do you always order? Who remembers L’Amour, the legendary “Rock Capital of Brooklyn” on 62nd Street? Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth, Guns N’ Roses and so many others rocked this stage, while legendary house DJs Alex Kayne and Chuck Kaye, “The Roar of L’Amour,” helped make the place unforgettable. L’Amour closed in 2004, but the memories are still alive. I recreated this Brooklyn legend as a miniature model you can collect and proudly put on your shelf. A few copies are available now. Who remembers Stella Maris Fishing Station on Emmons Avenue in Sheepshead Bay? Founded in 1947 by the six Lauro brothers, Stella Maris served generations of Brooklyn fishermen for over 75 years. So many people remember stopping in for bait and tackle before heading out on the water, the early mornings, the fishermen coming and going, the docks and boats out back, and bringing the day’s catch back to be weighed. Stella Maris was more than a bait and tackle shop. It was part of the fishing culture of Sheepshead Bay. Sadly, it closed and the building was eventually torn down, but the memories remain. Landi’s Pork Store has been a Brooklyn tradition since 1928, when John J. Landi began learning the art of traditional Italian sausage making. The Avenue N location has been here since 1959, and today the third generation of the Landi family is still carrying on the tradition. From their homemade sausages and fresh mozzarella to the heroes, prepared foods and that famous lard bread, Landi’s is a true Brooklyn institution. Who remembers Pay Less Variety Store at 416 Avenue U? For generations, this little mom-and-pop shop was part of the Gravesend neighborhood, with its sidewalk racks and a little bit of everything inside. Sadly, Pay Less is long gone, but the memories are still here. I recreated it in miniature, and I have a few copies available. What do you remember buying at Pay Less? Who remembers Mrs. Stahl’s Knishes in Brighton Beach? For generations, people came to this little shop under the El for those legendary handmade knishes. Potato, kasha, spinach, cherry cheese and, of course, those unforgettable cabbage knishes! Mrs. Stahl’s closed around 2005, but the memories are still incredibly strong. Who knows Bassett Caterers on Avenue X? Since 1962, they’ve been feeding generations of Brooklyn families, from their famous buffet and Turkey Thursday to countless celebrations. After the devastating 2020 fire, Bassett came back and is still here thriving! I recreated this Brooklyn original in miniature, and a few copies are available. Who remembers Pips Comedy Club on Emmons Avenue in Sheepshead Bay? Since 1962, Pips was a legendary proving ground where Andrew Dice Clay, Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler, Rodney Dangerfield, George Carlin and many more performed, with Michael “Wheels” Parise as the longtime MC. Founded by George Schultz and later run with his sons Marty and Seth, Pips was also managed by comedian and former NYPD officer Ray Garvey, whose brother John later owned the club, and eventually Joey Gay, who respectfully had to close it. I recreated Pips in miniature, and even a few of the comics who were part of its history have the model on their shelves, including Andrew Dice Clay! A few copies are available now.
