We were in Cupertino for Apple’s event and got hands-on time with the iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro and new Apple Watches. Samsung shipped the first Galaxy Fold seven years ago, and Apple used that interval to get its own foldable right. The Duo’s inner and outer displays share an aspect ratio of roughly 1:√2, the proportion of A-series paper, which folds in half without changing shape. So does the Duo. Layouts scale between states instead of reshuffling, and each form carries functions suited to it. The hinge alone holds more than 100 precision parts, and the inner screen reads as nearly seamless. Closed, it’s the size of a passport—itself a 1:√2 rectangle—and feels natural in the hand. The iPhone 18 Pro introduces the first variable aperture on an iPhone, a six-blade mechanism in the main camera, along with manual shutter speed and white balance in the native Camera app. Phone photography just moved one step closer to what big cameras can do. Both new Watches get a redesigned health sensor, and the Series 12 brings back ceramic cases for the first time since 2019, in Pearl White and Night Blue.

A first look inside Tom Sachs’ “31 Rue Cambon,” a full Chanel boutique rebuilt by hand in plywood, cardboard and paper at his Centre Street studio. Thirty-one tweed suits reference looks worn by Naomi Campbell, Elizabeth Taylor and Olivia Rodrigo, and the chandelier is cast-iron woks, Citi Bike reflectors and fishing sinkers. Nothing is for sale. Sachs calls the project “honoring and obsessing” rather than a collaboration, and Chanel was never consulted. It opens 11 September and runs through 10 October.

14p USB Light

Bocci's 14p is a portable version of their iconic 14 light introduced in 2005 light. The glass sphere has two halves which beautifully distribute the output, and has three settings for helping you set the appropriate mood. It charges quickly, with a 45 minute charge providing between 80 and seven hours of light based on intensity. Available in multiple colors.

The Colorful Energy of the Andaz Lisbon

Lisbon has never needed much help looking good, day or night. Its appeal is tactile, layered and slightly unruly: Moorish traces, Pombaline geometry, Atlantic light, Fado sounds, Portuguese craft and contemporary creativity coexist without collapsing into a single identity....

Montblanc made its first leather goods in 1926, pouches shaped to protect a fountain pen on the road. One hundred years later the house took over Crane Club on 8 September, arranging bags and writing instruments through the room around an oversize Writing Traveler large enough to walk into. Archival film traced the history across the walls while Honey Dijon played and espresso martinis went around on silver trays. Under artistic director Marco Tomasetta that first pouch has grown into a full range of bags and desk objects still built around writing.

Mauna Kea Beach Hotel opened in 1965 as Hawai’i Island’s first resort, built by Laurance S. Rockefeller on Kaunaʻoa Bay. Sixty years on, a $240 million renovation led by AHL Design’s Neu-Wa O’Neill and MADE Brands’ Jackson Butler worked from scans of the original construction drawings. “We had a duty to respect the existing building and only add elements that would enhance or restore what was already here,” O’Neill tells us. A new spa, an infinity lap pool and a bar in homage to Rockefeller join a freshly conserved collection of Hawaiian kapa and quilts, including 30 commissioned by Mealiʻi Kalama.
