CONGRATULATIONS JULIE! On passing the Written Exam👏👏👏

We're super proud of our lead New York technician for passing the first of 3 exams required to become a Registered Piano Technician.

Julie has already accrued several years of rigorous field experience with pianos throughout NYC including serving as our Institutional Service Specialist managing the pianos of both and

Passing this exam only confirms what we already knew about how much Julie has learned in the APC apprenticeship program so far, and we're thrilled to see where her career goes next.

As of today, Julie has been promoted to our Silver Level technician rank, and her rates are slightly higher than the rest of our apprentices to reflect the enhanced value she offers - trust me, she deserves it and she's worth it!

A HEARTY WELCOME to our new apprentices! Meet the crew - clockwise from upper left, we have Julie, our lead tuner in NYC and mentor to our three new apprentices, Evan, Char, and Zoe. I'm incredibly excited about this crew. Such lovely smart dedicated people. Each new tech has been training rigorously for over 2 months at on tuning technique, basic knowledge, and other repairs/adjustment. This was a surprise — first ever seen Yamaha spinet! It was pleasantly bizarre to have the weight of the keys on a spinet feel so heavy and buttery and responsive! And it definitely sounded less spinet-y than most.

This Kawai upright traveled from Paris to NYC. Maybe the transition was just too much for it 😭The lost motion all across the action was just a bit TOO lost. Look at the space between the jacks and hammer butts! Playing this felt like sinking into cloud — which would be pleasant in any other circumstance but certainly not here. Hoping to return and give this piano some TLC to give it a proper welcome to the states.

An homage to this matron — been in the client’s family for 50 years, moved from Florida to Georgia to NYC, hadn’t been tuned since 1986, and was only 30 cents flat across the board with beautifully working action and no broken strings in midst of tune. The grit and memory of some pianos is awe-inspiring.
